Chapter Four - I would protect her with my life...

Nolan’s P.O.V “WAKE UP!” I hear Maya’s voice say loudly as she jumps up and down on the bed. God, I hated when she woke up first. She does not stop until I wake up, no matter what time it is. I groaned, swiping her legs, and making her fall down, right on top of me. “Why do you need to be so damn annoying?” I said holding her tightly against me. “Cause I was bored, and you sleep too much.” She said prodding my nose. “I sleep as much as a normal person is meant too.” I said, “And stop prodding my nose, you know I don’t like that.” I added. Why did I say that? I knew her well enough to know she was going to do again. And she did, three more times, laughing hysterically when she did. She would be laughing in a minute though. I held onto her, flipping her over onto her back and put all my weight on top of her. I was making sure she could not move. My turn to do the thing she hates the most in the world. I gave her a certain look; one she knew well. “I swear you better not or I will hurt you.” She said sternly. “Too late,” I smirked. I started tickling her. She was squealing and screaming in seconds. She hated it. You would think she is getting murdered. She hated nothing more in the world than this. She will learn eventually. “STOP! STOP RIGHT NOW!” She screeched squirming below me. I never listened and kept going, until she was begging me, and I finally did stop. “I hate you right now,” she pouted, folding her arms over her chest. “No, you don’t…you love me.” I said, “And you started it. Served you right for wakening me up.” I added smirking. She lay below me, glaring at me. I laughed loudly, leaning down, and pressing my lips to her forehead. She was still trying to look like she was mad at me but that never lasted. A smile soon crept on her lips. “I can’t stay mad at your cute dorky face for too long.” She said. “I know,” I said giving her my dorkiest smile. I rolled off her and she moved to snuggle into me. I smiled slipping my arm around her. We only had two days left before classes started. We were trying to make the most of it. Once classes started, things would get hectic and we will not have much time to do anything. “Wanna go to Central Park for lunch today? We can stop by that deli we found the other day and get lunch and coffee. Then go there, enjoy the sun and relax?” She suggested, her fingers circling my chest “And we can pick everything up we need for classes before?” she added. One place her and I have still to go. It is on the list. The exceedingly long list of things we wanna do together. “That sounds like a perfect day.” I smiled down at her. “It does,” she said kissing my cheek “So let us get a move on.” She added laughing. I nodded, the two of us moving out the bed to get showered and dressed, grab a light breakfast before heading out. We stopped getting what we needed for classes, stationary and things. “What do you fancy for lunch? I fancy a baguette and salad.” She said as we looked at the menu. “Hmm, a cheese, steak sandwich and salad for me I think.” I smiled. Maya placed our orders, paying for it. She paid one day; I paid the other. That is how we always worked it. Today was her day. “Now let’s get to Central Park.” She said excitedly as we left. She slipped her arm into mine, resting her head on my shoulder. The park was only a short walk from where we were. It was pretty busy, that does not surprise me. “Oh, over there looks good.” She smiled, pointing to free space on the grass, next to the lake and under a tree. “It does,” I smiled. We headed over, getting to the spot before someone else did. This place really was beautiful. Maya placed down the blanket she brought with her for us to sit on. “This really is heaven.” She gushed as she sat down. I agreed with that, sitting down next to her. It really was vastly different from where we grew up. ******** Maya was laying down, resting her head on my stomach, reading her book. I was sitting against the tree, doing the same. There was a comfortable silence between us. Both very relaxed. “I don’t ever want this to change,” She said looking up at me. “It never will…promise,” I said smiling down at her, stroking her hair. “OK. I love you,” She smiled. “I love you too,” I said kissing the top of her head. She was not the biggest fan of change. Some changes she was Ok with, others not as much. She needed reassurance every once and a while. I do not mind giving her it. “Wanna go a walk? Before we head back?” She said. “Yes,” I said. We got everything gathered up before heading for a walk. I slipped my arm around her, pulling her into my side. She smiled happily, slipping her arm around me and her head on shoulder. I really hope all this does not change when College starts. A comfortable silence fell between us as we walked around. I knew to the world around us we probably looked like a couple. A very mismatched couple at that but that is because people just assume. The judgment would be there. Something she has never let bother her. Me I do, always have. I would not share that with her, not all the time anyway. “What you wanna do for dinner tonight?” she asked. “How about I cook us spaghetti and meatballs?” I suggested. “Oh, yes please.” She said excitedly. She loved my cooking. I have always loved cooking since I was a kid. That is why I do not mind cooking for her. “The store on the way home then?” I said. “Yes, cause we do not have those things in.” she said, “You are too good to me,” she added kissing my cheek. “And I always will be. That is what best friends are for.” I said. I would do anything for this girl. She was my entire world. I would protect her with my life. And I knew she would do the same for me. It is why we are as close as we are cause we feel the same about each other.
