Her life should have been a fairy tale. Unfortunately, her life was far from that. Her brothers were princes and full-blooded fairies; however, Haley was only a partial fairy. Her brother's father had died, and her mother sought solace from her father in the human realm. She used magic to conceive Haley that only the queen of the fairies can use outside her concupiscence. Haley’s parents shared a night of passion, during which her father told her mother that he was also a supernatural being. He told her would come for their child on its sixteenth birthday as per his people's custom. Haley spent most of her time in the library to escape the daily abuse she took from everyone in Faerie. Despite all her research, she could not find what supernatural group that custom her father mentioned was a part of. Haley was forced to do many things in secret. None of the fairies knew that not only could Haley communicate with her fairy light; she possessed powers as other fairies. Some were exceedingly rare. She had learned how to pop from one place to another. She could control the elements, both earth and sky. She possessed other talents as well. One she would never speak of was the rare talent to enter someone’s mind. She could find others' truth and make them tell it. She could not tell anyone; not even her brothers, Aiden, and Arion, about what she could do. They were nice to her, but only when no one was around. She longed for them to defend her just once in public, but they never did. She knew they were embarrassed she wasn't a full-blooded fairy. To defend her in public would be to show her acceptance. The truth seeker was highly coveted, and everything would change if they knew. She just wished they would love her without knowing. The only person who didn’t seem to care that Haley wasn't a full fairy was her mother, Alania. Alania was the Queen of Faerie. She was also the most beautiful woman Haley had ever seen. Haley was always happy when someone would say she was a miniature version of her mother. They shared the same auburn hair and green eyes. Haley was much shorter than her mother though. She was significantly shorter than most fairies. It was a serious point of contention among the Fae she saw. It proved she was not like them. If only they knew the truth of why she wasn’t tall, but they probably never would. Haley was nice to everyone. Even though they were never nice to her. Most fairies knew her Uncle Fabian was abusing her. She would show up places with bruises and broken bones. Some fairies would give her sympathetic looks; however, most of them would say she deserved it. What none of the good fairies knew was Haley's private hell. Her Uncle Fabian had been sodomizing her since she was six years old. He would never rape her vaginally because she needed to remain pure for whoever he convinced her mother to marry her to. Her purpose, in Fabian’s mind, was to strengthen the Fae's position and kingdom. Haley’s cousins, Hexxus and Masium, enjoyed joining their father in beating her. When Haley was thirteen years old, she’d stayed hidden in the library to avoid her family most of the day. Fate had other plans. On a whim, she decided to go for a walk. A seemingly innocent decision that turned into a nightmare. Masium, Hexxus, and her Uncle Fabian popped up out of nowhere. They began to beat her badly. She screamed in pain. She saw her brothers in the distance. She begged Arion and Aiden to help her once they arrived. She swore she saw them twitch, then they saw the crowed gather. Both quickly closed their eyes. When they opened them again, they stood there with sadness and pain in their eyes; however, they did not help her. She felt something inside her break. She loved her brothers, but they could never openly love her as she did them. Once her family was done beating her, her uncle told everyone to go home. Haley begged her brothers not to, but Fabian ordered them. The second they were gone Fabian sodomized her for what she swore was the last time. Her arms were broken, her shoulder was dislocated; her eyes were swelling shut. Fabian left her there broken on the ground. She was finally left alone, bleeding on the lively grass in a beautiful meadow that seemed to mock her. Haley gathered her strength. She popped to her room to gather up her belongings. She left a note and popped to the portal, leaving Faerie behind. Later, her brothers went to the woods to retrieve her after they had seen Fabian walking around the castle. They searched for hours but couldn't find their sister. Eventually, they popped to Haley’s room in the castle. They discovered their sister was gone and the note she left behind. They quickly read her words. To whoever is searching, probably Mother, I cannot stay here anymore. I tried to wait for my father, but he can find me wherever I end up. I wish, just once, that someone had protected me. I loved you all so much, and you allowed me to be verbally and physically abused. All for something out of my control, because I am only a partial fairy. It wasn't my choice how I was conceived. What hurts more than the words of abuse and the beatings, is that none of you stopped Uncle Fabian from sexually abusing me. I am gone for good. Do not come looking for me. Everyone will be happier this way. Haley Aiden and Arion broke down in tears. They never knew that their uncle had taken it that far. They knew they should have defended Haley. She was their sister. They just never wanted to cause unrest among the Fae. Now, their sister thought they didn’t love her when they did. Their mother said it was best this way, but they shouldn’t have listened. They took the note to court and wordlessly gave it to their mother. When Queen Alania read that her youngest child and only daughter was gone, she screamed. She chained her brother Fabian in iron once she read her daughter's note entirely. His punishment was the harshest the Queen had ever handed down. She told Aiden and Arion to find Haley, but Fabian ordered them not to. Not yet anyway. Fabian wanted Haley back when the time was right. Aiden and Arion decided to look for their sister, but not too hard. They both felt Haley deserved some happiness in her life. They found and followed a paper trail from the human realm. It disappeared soon after she was discovered; however, they were satisfied Haley had been found and would be ok. Six years later, they would have no choice but to track down their sister. They had to hope she would save their people from certain death. The fate of Faerie was in her hands. If she refused the supernatural world would back their foe. They would have to lock themselves away in Faerie forever. They would simply vanish from other realms if Haley chose not to help save them. They all were afraid that would happen because Haley Holloran had no reason to help a single one of them after the way they treated her.
