I'd hoped we'd have more time in this peaceful oasis, but it wasn't to be. At least we'd managed to get some sleep and food before the camera drones had found us. How long until the game makers sent predators or other contestants to this location? I'd destroyed the drone as soon as I'd spotted it, but I knew they transmitted live. They had seen us, no doubt about it.
I held out a hand to my mate who was still sitting on the forest floor.
"We have to go," I said, regretting that I had to take her away. Out in the forest, we'd have no chii to cook and translate for us. We'd be on our own. No shelter. No allies. The only weapon the axe on my belt. And Fay was so vulnerable. I would have worried for her even if she'd worn full-body armour, but she was practically n***d.
