THE WIND I begin to stir when the doorbell sounds like it’s coming off the hinges. I sit up, rubbing grit from my tired eyes, feeling like I’d just closed them only minutes ago. I check my phone. Huh, it’s nine o’clock! I’d pretty much slept the whole day and most of the evening. I peer out my window. The sun had disappeared behind the horizon, and stars have speckled the dark sky.
