Chapter 5

Alpha Austin's Point of View

I was in North Carolina for a meeting with another alpha who had been having trouble with rogues lately and needed help. So, I offered my assistance. While showing him what needed to be done around his pack, I received a mindlink from Tessa, one of my best warriors. I was proud of her. She frequently talked about her friend Angela and how Angela helped her and the others. She didn't like her pack or what her alpha would do to the other members. I instructed her to lead Angela to our pack, and I assured her that I would be there shortly to help her shift since she had plenty of time. But sometimes, the wolf doesn't want to wait, indicating that the wolf was powerful. When I had him order a larger fence and an iron gate, he said, "I should have done this years ago. Thanks for showing me what to do. I'm a new alpha, and I wasn't sure what to do."

"No problem, I'm just an hour away. If you ever need me, I'll be here." Tessa mindlinked me again, saying, "It's happening, sir. You won't make it. She is screaming bloody murder over the phone."

"Never doubt your alpha, Tessa. I'm on my way. Tell her I can smell her scent, I'm twenty yards away," I informed alpha James.

"Alpha James, I have to head out. There's about to be a newly shifted wolf who has no one to help her through it."

“Then I'm coming with you. The more there are, the better. You helped me, I will help you. So together, we shifted and ran in the direction where I scented her scent. It was going to take us twenty minutes. I kept telling Tessa to keep calm. She was an hour away from us, but knowing Tessa, she would be there sooner than that. We were so close when I heard her screaming. s**t, it's happening. I ran as fast as my wolf would let me, but something got into him. He perked up, sniffed, and then he growled. What in the h*ll was he growling about? We arrived just as I heard the first break. She screamed bloody murder. Shifting back to my human form, I had no clothes, but Alpha James had them. He found a pair of shorts up in a tree. I hurried to put them on and then rushed to the van. I snatched the door open, careful not to rip it off the van. I gently picked her up out of the van and then hurried deep into the woods. She did not need to do this out here. If humans saw it, they would freak out. I calmly talked to her,

“It’s okay, Angela, you’re okay. I'm Alpha Austin, Tessa's alpha of Red Oval pack. I know it might shock you, but I’m your second chance, mate. Tessa told me what had happened. I won't do that to you, but right now, it’s about you. I will help you.” Ford, my wolf, was trying to talk to me. I ignored him until he broke through,

‘Shut up about being mates; her wolf is already protective of her. She needs help shifting. That's all she needs right now. Once she has shifted, then we can talk about it. She doesn't need to hear about the mate thing right now.’

‘Fine, fine, shut up so I can help her.’”

Angela's Pov

"You've got to be kidding me. Of all things, Bella wanted to shift right now. Tessa was on the phone with me and told me to pull over on the side of the road; her alpha was coming. My body felt like it was on fire, and I needed water. So, I grabbed a bottle of water from the other seat, opened it up, drank half of it, and then tossed it down.

I know it's early, Angela. I'm sorry, but it's time. I felt it; I felt my arms breaking. I let out a blood-curling scream. I wanted the pain to stop. Whatever it took to stop this, I would do it only if it would stop. Then, out of nowhere, my van door got jerked open, and this sexy man gently picked me up. He was talking to me, but I wasn't really paying attention to what he was saying. All I could do was look into those deep green eyes; it was like I was home.

"It's okay, Angela. You're okay. I'm Alpha Austin; I'm Tessa's alpha of the Red Oval pack. I know it might shock you, but I'm your second chance, mate. Tessa told me what had happened. I won't do that to you. But right now, it's about you. I'm here to help you through this." What was he saying? Second chance, mate? He won't do what the other a**hole did. I really didn’t care right now if he did or not. All I was caring about was that this pain would go away, feeling another break, screaming out. I kept looking into his eyes as my other leg broke, then shifted.

"Angela, I'm so sorry, but it needs to be done. We are stronger now; just let me take control." I was crying, wanting her to shut up because I didn't know how to give control to her. I screamed out; I didn't mean to do it out loud, but I screamed it out.

"THEN TAKE FU*KING CONTROL AND GET THIS OVER WITH!" The alpha looked at me in shock, but I knew he knew what I was saying. The next thing I knew, it felt like I was looking through her eyes. She was talking to me, trying to calm me down.

"It's almost over. We have our fur growing; then the tail is next. Then it will all be done, I promise." I felt it; I felt it all—the fur, I felt so itchy. I wanted to scratch. Then something came from my behind. What the h*ll was that? Then she finally let me come forward; oh damn, my eyesight was so much better, my hearing, wow. I could hear a car driving by a mile away. Looking down, I looked down at my paws; my fur was black, I mean black-black like the night.

"Angela, do you want to shift back now? When we get to my pack, I will have you join, and then we will run with the pack." I had no idea how to do that, so I tilted Bella's head to the side. He knew what I meant; he chuckled as he started talking.

"Just think of you being human, your two legs, your arms; just think about that." I did what he instructed me to think about; my body ached for a little bit, then it was over. I was exhausted. He handed me a pair of shorts and a shirt; these weren't mine, but I wasn't about to walk around naked for all to see. I hurried to put the clothes on just as Tessa came running at us.
