Chapter 6Sunday morning heralds a flurry of to-ing and fro-ing and coming and going. The coffee pot is put on and is refilled throughout the day as all manner of produce and foodstuffs begin to fill our kitchen. Patricia is beaming. “Look at all the things we have,” she says happily, lovingly caressing each item as if it were made of gold. Everything we could possibly want to eat during the holidays has miraculously appeared this morning in exchange for some of her preserves. There is a basket of nuts from Sophie, honey from Denis, a large duck from a local hunter whose name I don't know but who everyone calls 'Bang-Bang,' hand-made chocolates, flavoured coffee – the list goes on and on. Each item is delivered with conversation and camaraderie. “Don't you just love this time of year?” P
