I settle into my regular seat by the hearth. Jutting my legs forward, I allow heat to seep into my body while I wait for Grayson.
One minute passes.
Two.
Grayson still stands by the doorway. Clearly, she needs more convincing. Fortunately, we wolves are curious creatures. Perhaps I can tempt her closer with a story.
I call over my shoulder. “Remember the key I gave you? The one that helped you escape Lady R’s tower?”
“How could I forget? Thank you so much.”
“Want to know how I found it?”
“Sure.” Grayson’s voice trembles with excitement.
“Come closer and take a seat. That way, you’ll hear the story properly.”
Grayson still doesn’t move.
“It’s rather a good tale,” I continue. “As a matter of fact, it involves New York’s most famous and crafty Cinderella.”
