While Svend and Mr Eriksen spoke off to one side, Master seemed sincerely happy to see his Mother. A rarity indeed to see him display such unbridled, loving emotion. I found I could not take my eyes from their tender exchange. She embraced him lovingly as he sat in his chair almost as though she were comforting a small child. He in return held her for long moments, his eyes were closed. They then sat and spoke softly, she of course did the majority of the talking, but I did notice he tried very hard to converse with her.
The afternoon appeared to be going well. I was not prepared for Master's treatment of his Father, I do not think anyone was. He simply rose from his chair, looked at him coolly, and departed from the room. Understandably they did not stay for dinner.
