As Mathew, Vincent and Cedric recovered from their ordeal, Mathew’s men ran out into the woods, looking for Toby. Father James stayed back as well to administer what help he could to the victims of Toby’s rage. He helped Mathew ono the bed so that he could catch his breath, having had it knocked out of him as a result of his fall. Vincent assisted Cedric to a chair. The groundskeeper was still visibly shaken from his encounter with Toby, and by now he had lost all pretence of projecting a brave front.
