Doctors appointment 1
Chapter 1
Levonna POV
I know they say dragons are only pregnant for seven months, but I swear I feel like I’m ready to pop. My feet are swollen, my belly is swollen, even my hands are swollen, and don’t get me started on my ankles. The only shoes I can wear are night slippers, which makes me feel like a giant, waddling marshmallow. Every time I try walking upstairs alone, Drago loses it.
“You’re not moving,” he growled the last time I even thought about climbing a single step.
“I’m fine!” I snapped, though my voice cracked. “I just need a sardine sandwich. With mustard. And lots of sauerkraut!”
He gave me that look, the one that says, you’re crazy but also adorable.
“Yes, I know it sounds disgusting,” I said. “But you’re not pregnant. I am. So it matters.”
Once I finally finished my…unique craving, I stomped over to Drago’s office. The doctor’s appointment was in an hour. The walk should’ve taken ten minutes. It took twenty, thanks to my waddling and his endless commentary.
“Levonna, come sit with me. I want to show you something,” he said, smiling like a cat who knows exactly what he’s doing. Oh no. Last time he said that, he showed me a video of a mother giving birth. Nightmares for weeks.
“I swear, if this is another birth video..” I began.
“Nope! No babies popping out this time. I apologized a million times for the last one. Just look at the computer and tell me what you think.”
I leaned over. My jaw dropped. On the screen was a crib, a rocking chair, a fully stocked changing table, and…oh. My. God. Baby clothes. Tiny little onesies, socks, and hats..all sorted by color and size.,“Drago…these are beautiful. I love them,” I whispered, stunned.
“Good,” he said, smirking. “Because I bought all of it. Everything should be ready when we get home from the doctor. Now…ready to go?”
I laughed, sitting back. “Yeah…ready to have this baby. And if I don’t, you won’t be touching me again for a long time.”
He leaned closer, voice low and teasing. “Oh, come on. You love it when I beg.”
I felt my face heat up. “Keep joking, and I might just change my mind and have you pull this thing out of me right here,” I muttered.
“Tempting,” he replied with a grin. The walk to the doctor’s office was supposed to be ten minutes. It felt like an eternity. Every step I took, my feet screamed, and Drago fussed.
“Here, let me carry you,” he offered.
“Ha! Not a chance,” I said, wobbling like a newborn calf. “I’m fine! I just need…a few more minutes of pain.”
When we arrived, the waiting room was empty, except for us. The door opened, and Joy and Randy walked out, deep in conversation, completely oblivious to us.
“I swear, if I don’t have this baby soon, Randy, you’re dead to me!” I heard myself yell, though I was trying not to laugh.
“I could’ve sworn you were enjoying it as much as I was,” Drago called after me, teasing mercilessly. “Shut up!” I snapped, though laughter escaped anyway. The doctor came out, smiling like he always did.
“Okay, you’re up next. Let’s see how that baby’s doing.”
And just like that, my “I’m about to explode” day turned into a full-on circus, me waddling like a balloon, Drago teasing me like I was insane, and tiny baby clothes mocking me from the computer screen
The doctor waved me forward, and I hobbled to the exam room like a human piñata about to burst. Drago followed close behind, grinning like a cat who knows he’s about to enjoy every second of this..“Sit here, big mama,” he said, patting the chair.
“I am not sitting like a big mama,” I hissed, lowering myself carefully. “I’m a dignified dragon in labor-adjacent mode!” He laughed, leaning on the counter, watching me like I was some kind of fragile, waddling treasure.
“Sure you are. Dignified…ha!”
The nurse came in, smiling. “How’s our patient feeling today?”
“Like my feet are trying to escape, and my belly is plotting a rebellion,” I muttered.
Drago whispered in my ear, “That’s why I love you..so dramatic.”
I elbowed him lightly, though he didn’t flinch. “Love me now, huh? Wait until you see me clawing my way to the car if this baby doesn’t come soon.” The doctor started the ultrasound, and the screen flickered to life. I leaned forward, my heart beating. The baby moved, tiny kicks and wriggles lighting up the screen.
“Oh my, look at her!” I gasped, tears prickling. “She’s…she’s perfect.” Drago reached over, brushing a hand over mine.
“She’s got your stubbornness already. That’s my girl.”
I rolled my eyes, but the warmth in my chest made me melt anyway. “Yeah, yeah…don’t get all mushy on me now.”
The doctor chuckled. “Everything looks great. Heartbeat strong, movements perfect. Any questions?” I glanced at Drago, who was staring at the screen like he might cry.
“Uh…yeah. Can we go home now so I can eat more..” I paused, “sardines?”
Drago laughed so hard I thought he might collapse. “You’re impossible.”
“I’m pregnant,” I reminded him. “Impossible is my new full-time job.”
The ultrasound ended, and the nurse left us alone. Drago leaned closer. “You know, I think we should celebrate. You survived the doctor, the baby’s fine…maybe a little reward?”
I raised an eyebrow. “Oh really? What kind of reward are we talking about?”
He smirked. “You know…something that involves me begging you to stay mad at me.”
I laughed, swatting his chest. “Keep dreaming, dragon. If this baby doesn’t come soon, you’ll be lucky if I even look at you.”
He shrugged, still grinning. “I like a challenge.” And just like that, the world was full of chaos, tiny kicks, sardine cravings, and Drago’s relentless teasing. Honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We were in the doctor’s office now. He looked up from the folder on his desk and gave me a calm, professional smile.
“Alright, Levonna,” he began, “I know you’re eager for your baby to come out, but you still have three more weeks. I can tell you a few things that might help start early labor, sometimes they work, and sometimes they don’t. s*x is the main one, walking can help too. Other than that, your baby is very healthy. Just have some patience; she’ll be here soon.”
He leaned forward slightly, his expression serious. “Now, about all this swelling, you need to keep your feet up as much as possible. No more walking upstairs. You should move into a lower room if you can. This is only temporary, just until the baby is born. Levonna, I mean this…if you fall, it could be harmful to both you and the baby.”
I nodded. “Yes, sir. Drago will make sure we move to the lower half of the castle.”
“Good,” he said, closing the folder. “Just remember those two things. If they don’t work, I’ll see you in three weeks.”
