CHAPTER SEVEN They don’t belong here. Cops all over the clearing. Hands touching the sacred site. Filthy boots clomping over it. Not once in all these years had anyone looked. Soon, everyone will know. Why now? Precious flowers were uprooted. Tossed aside as if garbage for disposal. The glare of floodlights transformed the soft grass into nothing more than ugly green carpet and the flowers into an unwashed blanket. It was time to retreat. Not be seen. Not yet.
