She walked home as fast as she dared in the heels, not wanting to trip or slip and hurt herself. By the time she got there, the combination of exercise, sunshine and fresh air had dissipated the remainder of her nerves. Now she just felt elated. She inserted her key into the lock and was just about to twist it and fling open the door with a playful “Honey, I’m home!” when something stopped her. Whatever the something was, it caused her to unlock and open the door as quietly as possible, before closing it just as quietly behind her. She took off her shoes and carefully placed them and her handbag on the doormat, then, stifling a giggle, turned invisible.
