than, I have obtained the information you requested.” Arthur, the man’s assistant, handed a file to Ethan—the man who had spent a night with Seraphine. “That woman lives on the outskirts of the city. Her name is Seraphine. But I heard her life is quite miserable. Miss Seraphine lives only with her mother and younger sister, but they are merely parasites who take advantage of her, not caring how exhausted or ill Seraphine becomes. Her family is truly a mess. I got this information from her coworkers,” Arthur explained. The man fell silent. Seraphine had a miserable fate, yet she still seemed spirited in living her life. Meanwhile, he—simply because of a woman who had never loved him—had wanted to end his life. Then the man remembered a word Seraphine had spoken. “FOOL.” “Do you want to meet her? What about Miss Claire? Didn’t you propose to her last night?” Arthur asked. “Don’t talk about that woman. Claire is not worthy of standing by my side! Have you gotten her address?” Ethan replied. “Yes, but why are you so eager to meet her?” “That woman saved my life,” Ethan said briefly. “And I owe her so much,” his heart whispered as he recalled the bloodstains on the white sheets that morning. They hurried to look for Seraphine. Upon arriving, Ethan and Arthur were momentarily confused about the exact location of Seraphine’s house, until they saw a crowd of people—and a woman lying on the ground. Vaguely, Ethan recognized the woman lying there as someone he knew. To be certain, he approached her. “It’s… Sera…” Ethan was shocked to see Seraphine’s condition—her body covered in bruises and wounds, her face pale, unconscious. Ethan looked furious. He immediately lifted Seraphine’s body and put her into the car. “What happened to you?” Ethan whispered in his heart. “Arthur, hurry to the hospital!” Not long after, they arrived at the hospital. Seraphine was immediately examined by a doctor, while Ethan waited anxiously. When the doctor finished examining her, Ethan quickly asked what had happened to Sera. “This young lady has many bruises and abrasions, as if she has been beaten. Her body is also severely malnourished, which makes her very weak,” the doctor said, shocking Ethan. “Seraphine endured all that abuse? Who did this to her?” Ethan was furious that someone could be so cruel as to whip a weak woman like Sera. “Arthur, quickly find out who did this to Sera!” Without responding, Arthur immediately began searching for the information his master needed. Arthur could see that Seraphine had become someone very important to Ethan. He did not want to disappoint him and would soon uncover who had hurt the woman who belonged to Ethan so badly. Ethan did not leave Sera’s side. He stayed beside her, holding her hand, hoping she would regain consciousness soon. After a long wait, Sera’s eyes finally opened. Her beautiful eyes met Ethan’s worried gaze, and Sera realized that she was now in the hospital. “You… the drunk man… you saved me?” Sera said weakly, her voice trembling. Unconsciously, tears streamed down Sera’s face, as if she were grateful that she could continue living. Seraphine had thought her life was about to end. “Ethan. My name is Ethan. I already told you—you are mine now. I will not take back my words,” Ethan said confidently. Sera smiled. She did not expect Ethan to be serious about marrying her. “If you feel guilty about what happened last night, I’ll forget it. Don’t worry, I won’t ask for responsibility. Because you’ve saved me now. We’re even.” “I’m not a bastard who only seeks pleasure. Yesterday, I was overwhelmed by emotion and crossed the line. Seraphine, I’ve decided—you will be my wife!” Ethan said, looking at Seraphine meaningfully, hoping she would not reject his proposal. For some reason, Ethan felt certain about marrying Seraphine. Perhaps because he saw that Seraphine was a kind and sincere woman. “I’m just a poor girl, and my family—” “Don’t worry about anything. As long as you agree to marry me, that’s enough!” Ethan cut her off, not wanting to hear Seraphine’s excuses. Seraphine smiled and nodded, tears falling as she felt grateful to finally have a place to escape from her toxic family. Perhaps now she could take shelter with the man who had saved her—whether it would bring good or bad, what mattered most was that she could get away from her mother and younger sister. Arthur arrived, and Ethan excused himself to speak with his secretary. Sera could only nod in permission, her body still weak and aching. “So, what did you find?” Ethan asked. Arthur explained that Sera was often treated badly by her mother and younger sister, and that the abuse she suffered was likely inflicted by her own mother. They always forcibly took the money Sera earned; if she refused, she would be scolded. “Especially since Miss Sera didn’t go straight home after working at the café—that might have triggered her mother’s anger,” Arthur added. Ethan felt guilty toward Sera for helping her, which caused her not to return home immediately. But regardless, her mother had no right to be cruel to her own daughter. “Find her mother and younger sister. They must be punished by me!”
