Emma’s POV
“Mrs. Sterling, you had miscarriage.”
The doctor’s words stopped me cold.
I can still hear his voice. “I’m so sorry, we failed to save your baby because you lost too much blood.”

Two years.
Two whole years I’d been waiting for this baby. And now it was gone. Just like that. I hadn’t even gotten the chance to tell Alex I was pregnant. I kept thinking maybe this baby would fix us, save our wreck of a marriage.
But now all that hope was just... nothing.
The accident happened near one of his construction sites as Margaret, my mother-in-law, asked me to check on the company’s latest building construction project, to replace Alex’s duties while he took her for a health checkup.
My car slid off the road – nothing major at first, but when I tried to get out for help, I fell. Hard. And there was nobody around, just me, bleeding and alone while my life fell apart piece by piece. I tried to calling him, twenty-five times but he never answer my call. I texted him too, but he left my text unread.
Doctor said some stranger found me and brought me to the hospital.
Six hours in the ER, but the doctors couldn’t save my baby.
So there I was, staring at this sterile white ceiling, not even knowing what to think. The TV was airing some mindless entertainment news that I wasn’t really paying attention to. Until I heard a name that made my blood spiked.
“...sources say socialite Charlotte Rivers was seen at a fancy clinic in Millbrook yesterday. Is she pregnant? Could there be wedding bells for the hotel heiress and business owner Alexander Sterling?”
There on the screen was this perfect photo of them from some charity event. Charlotte in this gorgeous white dress, standing next to my husband in his expensive black suit. They looked like they belonged together. Like a real couple.
So, on the day I lost our baby, Alex was at a doctor’s appointment with another woman. Another woman who might be carrying his child.
Then my phone rang.
'Alex' showed on the screen.
“Where are you?” he barked.
His voice was cold and angry.
“The family dinner is in two hours, and you’re missing. This is exactly what I expect from you—being irresponsible.”
I held the phone tighter, my hands shaking.
“Alex, I—“
“I don’t want to hear excuses, Emma. I’ve told you before not to push me. I don’t care if you have to f*****g crawl!”
“You will be at Sterling Estate for the family dinner. Our reputation depends on it.”
He hung up.
I stared at the phone until it went dark, then dropped it on the floor.
