New life as a princess
Winter in March
A girl trembled, her body shivering against the biting cold. Her eyes were weak, their light nearly extinguished. Wrapped only in a thin blanket and wearing tattered, inadequate clothes, she fought to stay conscious, her teeth chattering from the freezing air. No one was there—just her, alone, in a dirty and desolate place. The cracked walls of her surroundings allowed the icy wind to seep through with ease.
No one would believe that someone lived in this forest. This place, owned by her family, was reserved for those punished by the Emperor.
Six months had passed since she was exiled to this forest, and her release was still far off. For a minor mistake, her father, a minister, had cruelly abandoned her here.
Her body grew thinner and weaker. Even her breaths became faint, her heartbeat slowing. Her vision blurred and dimmed, until the light in her eyes disappeared completely with the darkness of the night.
"Ah, so this is what it feels like to face death," she thought. "Mother, I’ll be joining you soon. I hope you won’t scold me when we meet again."
She hated being born into a noble family. If she had a choice, she would have chosen a simple life with a family that loved her sincerely. But was such a thing even possible?
"God, if there’s a second chance at life, I wish to be born into a humble family where I’ll be loved truly," she whispered. Her heartbeat stopped, her face pale, her soul leaving the world that had brought her so much suffering.
In the modern world, a beautiful woman, a renowned doctor and model, lay weakly on a hospital bed. She was surrounded by people who loved her deeply and sincerely.
"Why do you all look like that? Smile! Your faces look terrible," came her melodious voice from the bed.
"Mom, look at Sis! She’s still scolding me," complained a handsome man, as their mother pinched his arm.
The woman burst into laughter, tears streaming down her face from the joy. The somber atmosphere turned into warmth and cheerfulness.
"Mom, Dad, Brother, and all of you, I’m sorry if I’ve ever hurt you. I don’t think I’ll be here much longer, so please don’t show such sad faces. Even if I leave, I’ll always be with you. Now, let’s watch my favorite anime series together. I’m curious about its ending," she said.
The five of them watched enthusiastically, laughing and talking, unaware that the woman had taken her last breath before seeing the ending of the anime she loved so much.
Everyone wept. She was the eldest and the only daughter in the family after their mother. Despite her brilliant career as a doctor, she had suffered for 20 years from a rare disease that had no cure.
Cold winds swept through a dilapidated house. The stars and moon disappeared into the darkness of the night. A body, once still, began to move.
"What is this place? Am I in hell? But why is it so dark and cold? Aren’t there supposed to be gods here?" she thought.
"But why can I feel the cold? And wait—what’s this? Why is this body so thin, just skin and bones?" She touched her frail body and suddenly remembered her favorite anime, *One Piece*, particularly Brook, the skeleton musician and swordsman from the Straw Hat crew.
Unintentionally, she laughed, recalling funny clips of Luffy and his friends.
"God, have I been reincarnated?" Silence. "Ow, what is this?" she muttered, clutching her head as a sharp pain pierced it like needles.
Memories that were not her own flooded in like a movie, vivid and suffocating. Tears streamed down her face as each clip of memory unraveled in her mind.
"How horrible... The previous owner of this body had such a cruel father and stepmother. Even her own sibling betrayed her and stole her fiancé. Rest in peace, and don’t worry. I’ll take over this body and avenge you. I’ll reclaim what’s rightfully yours," she vowed, smiling like a devil awakened from slumber.
