##Chapter 27 Bane of All

For a moment, Wayne did get me nervous. Yet shortly afterward, I got to calm down again, "You've been pushing me off the cliff all the time. Did that help you as you thought it should? I'd say you better make sure your Ms. Green's alright." The Green family was just as prominent as the Fox family. When the two decided to unite, their stock even rocketed. Now that Wayne got tired of Doris, only heaven knew how long such a union could last. With that being said, it was Vincent who ruined it all. Nobody knew what would become of him as he was that close to killing the Fox stock. "This isn't your problem," Wayne said. "So mind your own business." "What is my own business, then? Is it another cliff that we're going down? I don't even remember how many times we've been in some deep s**t since I started to help you with all this. Now my brother even saw all this. What am I supposed to tell him?" "Aren't you tired, Caroline?" Wayne suddenly asked. I never expected that kind of a question. "You gotta play nice to your audience at work, and you gotta play fair to your brother at home. How can you live like that?" Wayne squinted. I never expected he saw me through like this. "And why do you care?" I asked. "Is it that we've got something in common?" "What is that supposed to mean?" Wayne looked up. I laughed and put myself in his arms, "You never were the focus of your family. You had to play tough to make sure nobody ever noticed your sorrow. How do you live like that? You mask yourself all the time just as well..." Before I could finish, Wayne grasped my hands, "I warned you. Watch out not to get cursed with knowledge." "Come on. Am I not cursed enough? You're to blame for all this," I growled. Wayne laughed, "You seemed to have forgotten how you got to me. I was the one who saved you from Leopard." I couldn't help but shiver. Did he know I tried to use him against Leopard all along? "Mr. Wayne..." "You're smarter than that," Wayne stopped me, "and you know what's best for you. Whether you wish to work with me or not, it's your call." As he finished, he started to dress up again. I proceeded to sit back and watch him. As he was done, he left without another word. I kept sitting there alone for a good while, not knowing what I was thinking about. After that, the Fox family left me alone for the next couple of days. Maybe Wayne left me for good this time. I was working my drill on the catwalk the other day, and I happened to hear about the Fox family stock diving. I then couldn't help thinking whether I had something to do with this. "The Green family asked to get out of this, or so I've heard. It was Wayne who cheated on Doris." "Pfft. This already happened later than I thought. Everyone knows he's a playboy." I paced around them, trying to pick up more of their conversation. "Was Wayne getting out of his engagement? I thought she loved Wayne much. Was it all because of me?" I tried not to think like that. Wayne was right. I could get cursed with knowledge. As I clocked out, I left Paradise Lost with Amy. "How's it going with you and Mr. Wayne?" Amy seemed interested. "We're not getting nowhere, and we all know it. He was just a playboy that's looking for a new toy," I smirked. It might just be me, but Amy seemed happier as she heard that. "Right. Millionaires like him sure have got all the women they want," Amy smiled. That was harsh to my ears, but I couldn't think of anything as a reply. Little did we know, Wayne was leaning on his ride right outside the backdoor, waiting for me. We all got surprised as we saw each other. "Do you always get off work this late?" Wayne looked bored and impatient. "Mr... Mr. Wayne," Amy started before me. Yet Wayne took no notice of her, trying to stuff me in the car. "Mr. Wayne," Amy kept on. I thought she was worried about me, so I smiled back and said, "Don't worry. It's fine." As I finished, Wayne got us away. "I thought we figured it all out last time around," I said calmly. "Nope," Wayne looked forward. "As long as I want you to, you'd still be in this with me." I never got to wrap my brain around how he chose me among all the strippers in Garol. Now that I knew how worthless I was, I understood how my plan looked ridiculous. I wasn't into getting myself in trouble any longer. "Just set me free," I said. "Aren't you worried someone would come after you?" Wayne glanced at me. "What do you mean by that?" I asked hurriedly. "Well, Doris did catch us, right? She ain't too nice, as far as I know." "But I thought you disengaged already," I didn't get it. Doris did let him go quite easily, and then why would she come after me?
