Chapter nineteenThe black wrath seething within me drove those passionate words bouncing against the walls. Before the echoes died Seg, good old practical, fey, Seg snapped out: “San! Can your sorcery affect this mage Quenlo?”

The tall black hat swayed as W’Watchun shook his head.

“I bring bad news, I know, and there is more. Khon the Mak discharged that incompetent Wizard of Loh who caused the earthquakes. He hired a new Wizard of Loh, more competent, more powerful — who blocks my magic.”

“So thaumaturgy is useless!”

A shocked yell screeched from ahead followed immediately by a smashing roar drowning thin screams. A wall of dust rolled down towards us. W’Watchun vanished. Pushing on through the dust trying to hold our breaths and wipe our eyes, we stumbled onto the scene of tragedy.
