“Brother, awaken. It's done.”
My eyes shuttered, the bleary room coming into focus slowly. Where was I? And why was . . .
“Hyde?”
“Yes, it’s me.”
I rubbed my cheek and tightened my hold on Stephanie. “What are you doing here?” My groggy voice made me clear my throat.
He tilted his head as he always did and rubbed the back of his neck. “The call. For her. It was far too loud to ignore; it pulled me here all on its own. To say I was shocked to find you like this”—he gestured to my position—“is an understatement. But rather than wake you, I simply took her. I can see why you wanted to delay though. She’s quite unique.”
All sleeping haze cleared, white-hot rage radiating through my body. I jumped up and shoved him back a step.
