Chapter Twenty-Two Theo Whatever else came my way, Stephanie was worth it and more. She'd choose to come with me, I knew it in my heart. She'll hate me when she finds out I abandoned all those souls. I stretched my neck but kept moving. She'd understand. She had to. The past was done now. And I could fix it, hopefully. She won't be pleased with what I've done. She can't love someone who thinks so little of others. My eyes widened. She was generous, where I was selfish. It would no doubt be difficult for her to love me. I'm nothing but a monster who deals in death. That's all she sees me as. I'll never be more than this. I stalled, that gut punch stealing my breath. I knew I needed to move, but that truth hurt. I was a monster. She deserved better. She'll die again, afraid of me. B
