Chapter 2: Heartbreak And Humiliation

1036 Words
Charmaine's POV I woke up to an empty bed, Marcus's side cold and untouched. I stretched, wincing at the soreness between my legs. Last night's passion lingered, a pleasant ache. I swung my legs over the side of the bed, my limbs feeling heavy. The limp was noticeable, but I didn't mind. It was a reminder of our love. After a yawn, I headed to the shower. The warm water soothed my muscles, washing away the fatigue. I closed my eyes, remembering last night's intimacy. Marcus was probably attending to his Alpha duties. I wasn't worried; I could take care of myself. Post-shower, I rubbed cream onto my skin, savoring the scent. A spritz of cologne, and I felt refreshed. Dressing up, I chose a flowing sundress, perfect for the day. My hair fell in loose waves down my back. Memories of last night flooded my mind – Marcus's touch, his kisses, his love. I blushed, feeling grateful. Ready to face the day, I left our quarters, seeking Marcus. The outdoors beckoned, where the pack gathered. I stepped into the sunlight, I spotted Marcus amidst his pack members. His eyes met mine, and he frowned. My heart skipped a beat. I approached Marcus, noticing his frown. Concerned, I reached out to touch his arm. "Hey, what's wrong?" But instead of his usual warmth, he flinched, flinging my hand off his shoulders. The sudden rejection stung. "Marcus, what's going on?" I asked, surprised and shocked. The pack members' attention shifted to us, their curiosity palpable. Marcus's growl sent a shiver down my spine. "Don't touch me." My mind reeled. "What? I shouldn't touch you after last night?" Marcus scoffed, his eyes cold. "Last night was just a test." "A test?" I repeated, confusion etched on my face. "Compatibility," he said curtly. "And let's just say... you're too weak for an Alpha's mate." His words cut deep, like a slap to the face. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. "Weak?" I whispered. The pack members' murmurs filled the air, their faces a mix of surprise and curiosity. I stood tall, trying to process Marcus's sudden change. "Explain," I demanded. Marcus's expression turned icy. "An Alpha's mate needs strength, resilience. You... can't keep up." His dismissal stung. I remembered the passion, the love we shared. Was it all just a ruse? "You used me," I accused. Marcus shrugged. "I did what needed to be done." My heart ached. The pack's whispers grew louder. I felt tears pricking at the corners of my eyes. How could Marcus do this? Marcus's words cut deeper, each sentence a razor-sharp blade. "Your compatibility is laughable, your resistance pathetic. You lack speed, agility, and movement. Your pace is sluggish." I felt my heart shattering with each cruel word, like delicate glass crushed beneath his heel. The crowd murmured, their faces reflecting their discomfort. But I couldn't bear to look at them. I couldn't bear to look at Marcus. His eyes, once filled with love and adoration, now seemed cold and calculating. How could he? I thought, tears streaming down my face. Last night's passion now seemed like a cruel joke, a ruse to lure me into this moment of utter humiliation. "I'll never be your mate. You're not worthy," Marcus declared, his voice dripping with disdain. That was the final blow. I turned and ran, tears blurring my vision. The pack's whispers grew louder, but I didn't care. I had to escape. Escape the pain, the shame, and the heartbreak. Marcus's voice echoed behind me. "You're not enough." The words stung, fueling my desperation. I ran faster, my feet pounding the earth. Trees blurred together as I fled through the forest. Branches scratched my skin, but I didn't feel a thing. Tears streamed down my face, hot and relentless. My heart ached, heavy with sorrow. I felt humiliated, vulnerable, and alone. But I wouldn't let Marcus see me break. I wouldn't give him that satisfaction. I vanished into the trees, leaving behind the pack, Marcus, and my shattered heart. I ran, the forest grew denser, darker. Shadows enveloped me, hiding my tears. I stumbled, fell, and scrambled up, continuing my frantic escape. Finally, exhausted, I collapsed against a tree, sobbing uncontrollably. My heart lay in tatters, shattered by Marcus's cruelty. I sat against the tree, tears finally subsiding, reality set in. I had to leave this place, leave Marcus and his pack behind. I couldn't bear the thought of facing him again. With a newfound determination, I stood up, brushed off my clothes, and began the long walk home. My mind reeled, replaying every moment of our encounter. How could Marcus do this to me? The walk seemed endless, my feet heavy with sorrow. I felt numb, my heart frozen in shock. Finally, I reached my small cottage, seeking refuge within its familiar walls. I locked the door, shutting out the world. A cold shower beckoned, washing away the dirt, the tears, and the memories. But they lingered, etched in my mind like scars. I collapsed onto my bed, exhausted. Recollections flooded my thoughts – Marcus's touch, his kisses, his rejection. "Why?" I whispered, staring at the ceiling. Memories of our passionate night now seemed tainted. Was it all a lie? Yes! Yes, it was. I replayed his cruel words: "You're not enough." "You're weak." "You'll never be my mate." Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes, but I refused to cry. I thought of my parents, their love and support. I needed them now. As darkness fell, I lay there, lost in thought. My heart ached, but I vowed to heal. Marcus may have broken me, but I wouldn't let him define me. I'd rise from these ashes, stronger and wiser. The night wore on, and eventually, sleep claimed me. But even in slumber, Marcus's words haunted me. Marcus's words left an indelible mark on my heart and mind. "You're not enough" echoed relentlessly. Emotional scars formed, tender and raw. Self-doubt crept in, shadows darkening my thoughts. I questioned my worth, my strength. His rejection stung, a constant reminder of my perceived inadequacy. Time passed, but the ache lingered. Fear of vulnerability gripped me, walls forming around my heart.
