Marcus's POV Charmaine swung open the door, I was taken aback by the sight of her. Charmaine looked... different. Her hair was styled in a way that accentuated her features, and her skin had a warm, golden glow. She had put on a little weight, but it suited her. For a moment, I forgot about the reason I was there, forgot about the weight of my mistakes. All I could do was stare. Her expression, however, was a different story. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she took in my appearance, her gaze lingering on my face before flicking away. She did look surprised to see me, exactly. More like... resigned. Like she hadn't been expecting me, and wasn't particularly thrilled about it. I felt a pang of guilt as I met her gaze. I knew I didn't deserve her forgiveness, not after what I had done. But
