“What the hell was that, Mandy?!” Aki bursts through the door yelling. “I told you to go upstairs!” Mandy yells back. “I thought I could trust you guys!” She continues. She is so angry and ashamed right now. She doesn’t know what to feel. Angry. Sad. She doesn’t know. “You know, I thought you could trust us too but apparently you can’t because you never told us about that power of yours.” Eric says disappointingly.
“I wanted to, but I was scared! You both just don’t understand!” Mandy screams. “We do understand. Seems like you couldn’t trust us with your little secret there. Why?” Aki asks. “My home… they were attacked and captured by your government.” Mandy replies in shame. “The Dominican Republic was attacked by our government?” Eric asks. “I never lived in the Dominican Republic.” She says. “What the hell are you talking about you never lived in the Dominican Republic?” They ask. “Just tell us everything.” They continue.
“I’m from here. In the Bermuda. There’s a hidden city that everybody’s heard of. It’s called The City of Atlantis. My people… they’re captured by the United States Government. They’re the ones who has caused everything that we’ve been through. My people, yes. They made stuff happen over the Bermuda so that nobody would be able to find us. But they weren’t deadly. It would usually be whirlpools but not big ones. Small calm ones. Just to scare them off. But then the government came and invaded. They made these tests deadly. So that they know who can survive and who can’t. So that they can pick the weak from the strong.” Mandy says as she cries from all of the pain. She misses her family so much. She just wants to see them again.
“So, all of you have powers?” Aki asks. “Just the royals.” She responds. “The royals?” They ask. “Yes. Me and my sister are the princesses. Our mom and dad, the king and queen, are right below us. In our city.” “What was going on between you and your sister?” They ask. “I just found out why it all happened… how it all happened… she was mad at my family. Has been for years now. I never knew why until now. You see… our family cannot have babies with commoners. But when my dad was young, he slept with a commoner and ended up getting her pregnant. My grandfather found about it. He let her stay until she had the baby, Lola, then they banished her forever. Well, when my grandfather passed, our father went and searched for Lola’s mom and found her, we share the same mom now. But Lola never knew about this. We tried to tell her. But she never believed us. She resented us for that reason. Then she went to the united states, found out people were curious about Atlantis, and told the government about us. They took over our city. She still gets money for it all too so don’t even get to thinking that she feels bad.” Mandy says.
It’s all bringing back her memories. Everything she went through. Her family. Friends. Her city. All fell to the humans. Atlantians no longer ruled their city so it fell apart. “So, that’s the whole truth. I promise.” She continues. “This is all crazy man. Is this why you came out here with us? To rescue your family?” Eric asks. “Yes, I thought it was the perfect plan. Aki wanted to come out here to see what all that happens out here. So, I thought it would be the perfect way to get out here and find a way down there. I believe I heard Lola say something about bubbles that bring you there, but you have to go through these tests first.” She says.
“Okay so you’re definitely not human. What are you?” They ask. “An Atlantian but in your world, a mermaid.” She responds. “Okay, well. How is Leeroy doing?” They ask. Leeroy was still unconscious on the floor. They just stared at him, wondering if he was going to make it. He has to make it. “He’ll be perfectly fine. He just needs some rest. I brought him down here so that he’ll be safer than us up there.” She responds.
They all go upstairs and take a look around to make sure that nothing was coming after them again. Eric and Aki are both in shock. Their best friend is a mermaid and they never knew. They never know that their best friend could heal their scratches that they got as kids. They never knew that their best friend could have a tail. They don’t know what to say or do but survive and help their friend save her city.
“I wonder how many more tests there will be.” Aki says breaking the silence. “I don’t know, I just hope we all survive it. The tests seem to be getting harder and harder.” Mandy replies as she looks out the window. “Oh! The snake! We forgot to take the head off of the boat. We can’t move with it on us because it’s too heavy.” She says. They all start to think about how they’re going to get it off of their boat without hurting themselves or the boat. Chop it up? That’ll take too much time. Push it? Its worth a shot.
They all go outside onto the dock to try and push it off of the boat. The snake is split in half so if they all work on one side at a time, it could be possible to just push it off. They all start pushing with all of their strength to no avail. As they’re pushing, they hear the living area door creak. They turn around and notice Leeroy standing there. “You three need help?” He asks as he walks up to the snake. “You need to rest.” Mandy exclaims. “No, I need to help so that we can get this boat moving.” He replies. They gave in and let him help.
They all start pushing. Grunting with every push. “It’s moving!” Aki yells. They keep pushing and grunting. “Ahh, almost… there…” Mandy says. They give it one last push and the first half of the snake finally falls off of the boat. They do that with both halves and finally, the snake is off of the boat. They all fall down in exhaustion and start to look at the sky. Breathing as heavy as ever.
