Chapter 1

I appeared as a guest on a variety show, and once filming wrapped, we moved straight into a live interview segment.

I shared the same broadcast room with Chantal Marlowe. We both made our debut in the same television drama.

Three years later, while I remained a complete unknown and barely recognized face in the industry, Chantal had long since become a top-tier leading actress.

There was no question that the production team had brought me along simply to create a contrast with Chantal... hoping to spark debate, boost viewership, and draw more attention.

But the reaction the crew had anticipated did not seem to be playing out as planned.

The audience focused entirely on Chantal, leaving me sitting beside her like a decorative prop.

It did not matter to me at all, I truly did not care.

Feeling bored, I glanced at the monitor.

Almost every comment scrolling across the screen was filled with messages of support for Chantal.

Of course, every so often, a few mocking remarks aimed at me would also flash by.

A: [Started out at the same time, yet one is soaring high while the other is stuck in the dirt. How does Elise Stratton? Even have the nerve to sit next to our Chantal? Is she really this shameless just to grab a little extra attention?]

B: [This is hilarious! Back then, there were even rumors saying Elise Stratton was dating award-winning actor Kael Easton. I almost believed it at the time!]

C: [How could Kael ever be with someone as unknown as Elise Stratton? Those photos were definitely just taken at a bad angle and staged by her on purpose to get noticed. What a calculating person!]

D: [Oh my goodness! When will our queen Chantal appear on the screen alongside Kael, who everyone pairs her with? We fans of the couple have nothing to go on... give us some moments already. I'm dying to see them together!]

E: [I'm a fan of the pairing too, and I truly believe they are a real couple! Chantal and Kael are perfect for each other!]

'Perfect for each other???'

I lifted the corner of my mouth and gave a cold, amused smile.

Back when Kael pursued me, I had only just debuted and was still considered one of my agency's most promising new talents.

He told me he had fallen for me the moment we first met, that he could barely go an hour without thinking of me, and that he even dreamed of me night after night.

He asked me to be his girlfriend... on the condition that we kept our relationship private, because he feared going public might harm my rising career.
