I lowered my lashes and casually examined my freshly done manicure, lifting my gaze only to meet the host's intense stare all at once.
Most likely, he had spotted another chance to drive up viewership, or perhaps he felt slightly guilty for ignoring me for so long.
The second possibility, however, was far too slim. Sure enough, the next question he asked laid his true intentions completely bare.
"Elise, there were once rumors linking you to award-winning actor Kael. Now that you are sitting here beside his confirmed partner, what are your thoughts on that?"
I smiled gently, remaining perfectly composed. "Whatever answer you are looking for, that is exactly what I think."
The host gave an awkward laugh. "Well… then Elise, do you wish Chantal and Kael a long and happy life together?"
I lifted the corner of my mouth slightly, neither confirming nor denying the statement.
After years of going through these empty formalities, I had grown less and less interested in playing along. Perhaps it really was time for me to return home.
Just then, the host turned to me again with another question.
"Elise, if you were to step away from the entertainment industry entirely, what would you choose to do next?"
I answered without a moment's hesitation, "Go home and take over a multi-billion-dollar family fortune."
"I beg your pardon?" The host's practiced smile faltered completely.
He repeated the question clearly, "Let me ask again if you left the industry, what would you plan to do?"
I replied calmly and openly, "Go home and inherit my family's assets."
The three-year agreement had finally reached its end.
