Chapter 10

This morning I was incredibly happy when decided that I would train and do patrol duty tonight but the more I got to think about the worse the idea sounded because when I finished patrol duty it’ll mean I’ve been up for over twenty four hours and will already be incredibly tired from training before my shift even starts, yep he knew I left out some truth so he definitely thought up the best way to make sure I have no energy to get into any trouble today. So I’ve decided to take out my frustration at the situation out on a punching bag, I did try to spar with some of the other wolves but the warriors that trained quickly put an end to it when I took out ten wolves without breaking a sweat. "What did you do?!" Carly bursts into the gym shouting making everyone stop what they are doing to stare right at her then flick their gazes to me. Sighing I take off my worn boxing gloves and walk straight to her frowning when I take in her panic stricken appearance, what is always a smile on her face and bright sparkling blue eyes is now a face completely covered in fear and panic. "What are you talking about?" Noticing the large amount of wolves in the gym she harshly grabs my arm and spins on her heels to leave the gym, at her fast pace I almost have to run to keep up with her fast strides. Getting outside she slams the gym door shut then looks at me with wild eyes that makes me a little scared, Carly is never panicked about anything due to our training we've learned how to easily keep ourselves calm and to keep our faces emotionless when any problem arises so seeing her now is very unsettling and alarming. "That so called 'harmless' fight you got into yesterday wasn't exactly a small normal fight was it?" I groan and slap a hand on my face realizing the truth of what happened is already out in the open. Of course she already figured it out but why is she acting so upset about it? "One of the pups accidentally went into the other pack's territory and two wolves were about to attack her so I got into a fight with them to protect her." I say in a dismissive manner Carly pinches the bridge of her nose and takes in a deep breath at hearing the truth. "You shouldn't have done that, I doubt they would've hurt a young pup most likely they were just trying to scare her to keep her from crossing over into their territory." Of course that's what they were doing! How stupid can I be for not even thinking of that possibility the only reason they got truly aggressive was because I trespassed. Goddess dad is going to explode if he has already found out about all this. "My instincts kicked in, the thought of them not actually trying to hurt her never even crossed my mine." Carly huffs. "Obviously! Now you better get to the shared border!" My brows furrow in confusion. "Why?" She grabs both of my shoulders and looks into my eyes. "You attacked the Beta and Third! Their Alpha is beyond pissed and there's no denying it was you who attacked because they are saying it was a silver wolf, more specifically an Alpha sized silver wolf." My eyes widen. "Silver wolves are rare and just how many do you think are in this pack?!" "Dammit!" I growl out. Pushing her a little bit away from me I waste no time and start stripping out of my sweat drenched clothes, seeing what I'm doing Carly does the same. When we are both naked we shift into our wolves and pick up our clothes in our mouths. Not bothering to ask if I have any sort of plan for when we get to the border Carly takes off in the direction of the woods going as fast as she can which I easily catch up to, even though she's running at full speed I'm keeping myself drastically slowed down so she can keep up with my incredible speed. Being an Alpha plus a rare wolf my speed is atleast double hers not even dad who is a very strong Alpha can keep pace with me. As pack members see us they hurridely move out of the way, seeing an Alpha wolf and Beta wolf running together at such a high speed is near good it usually means there's trouble and right now there is, trouble that I've caused. Carly's brown and red mix colored wolf starts pushing itself to go even faster, a wolf like smirk crosses my face at her strong need and determination to get to the border showing my wolf and I just how great of a Beta she'll become considering she’s now pushing herself past her limits. Sadly it'll be another five years til she's old enough to take the position so I'll be stuck with a nagging Trace as Beta for awhile. Entering the treeline we find the fastest trail that leads to the shared border, I don't even know why we even have a trail that goes to that border, there's no reason to have one well maybe right now there's a good reason to have it but as far as I know this is the first time this trail has ever came in handy. My wolf soon starts to fight for control, she wants to run at full speed to get there and she doesn't understand why it is that I stay slowed down. There's no questioning she's an Alpha wolf but she can't seem to understand the importance of the Beta showing up with the Alpha, it shows power and unity but she sees us as powerful enough to not need the Beta by our side which is true but they unity part is important if we don’t show up together then that means there’s some kind of turmoil going on between the both of us which there isn’t and never will be. Using all my will power I'm able to make her retreat enough that it’s not too much of a struggle to keep her back, peeking over next to me I can tell Carly is already about to drop from pushing herself so hard but she hides her exhaustion not wanting to appear weak when we get to the border or appear weak in front of my wolf. After a few short minutes I'm easily able to spot my dad and Trace who look like they want to slaughter someone they are enraged right now at whatever it is that’s being said. They are in a very heated debate with two men who I'm assuming is the Alpha and Beta of the other pack making me want to instinctively growl at the enemies who are angering my father. Hearing our approach all four heads snap in our direction and their conversation ceases, who I assume is the Beta ferociously growls when he catches sight of my silver fur I growl back in warning as I go behind the closest tree to shift. Dropping my clothes onto the ground I think of my human form and soon my bones are popping and rearranging morphing me back into my human form. I quickly put on my sweat covered clothing ignoring the stench of my own sweat since the way I smell isn’t exactly important right now. Carly and I emerge from the trees side by side with blank faces while letting our power radiate off us to let the Alpha and Beta know just who we are. Dad and Trace momentarily forget their anger to give me looks of disappointment but there's a hint of pride behind those faces at just how calm and composed I'm behaving at the moment. "You're the she wolf from yesterday." The brown headed Beta snarls as he sends me a death glare. Carly snarls at him exposing her canines and tries to protectively stand in front of me, her wolf showing the strong need to protect her future Alpha. Placing a hand on Carly's shoulder I give her a small smile, flicking her gaze from the Beta to me she reluctantly steps aside. Getting in front of the Beta our eyes roam over each other sizing one another up assessing the threat level of eachother. Not seeing anything too impressive about the man I smirk which annoys him, his lips raise in a snarl but he manages to hold back from actually snarling at me. Dad is the one to interrupt our silent stand off. "Care to explain what happened yesterday?" The Beta starts to open his mouth but I cut him off. "One of the pups crossed the border by accident, I heard her scream and when I spotted her this wolf and another were in attaking positions acting like they were going to hurt her. My instincts kicked in so I crossed the border to protect her." "You attacked me and the Third." The Beta grits out through clentched teeth. I scoff. "You attacked first so technically I was defending myself and I barely harmed you, I fought just enough to get you guys away from the pup and I." My arms cross over my chest as he continues to glare daggers at me. Dad sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose at hearing the truth. It's good that I didn't attack first but I did cross into their territory without permission giving them full right to attack me even if I'm an Alpha. "You know that trespassing is a crime that can be punishable by death." The Beta sneers. I raise a brow and mockingly smile at him. "Oh? Well it seems I'm not on your territory right now so there's nothing you can do. It's not like you could take down and Alpha anyways you’re way too weak." I can feel Dad's piercing gaze on me, he wants to chastise me for taunting the wolf but he can't right now. When we get home I'm going to be in some serious s**t, there's no way anybody would let this whole trespassing thing slide. "You're no Alpha yet." He returns my mocking smile making me really want to punch him in the face. Out of the corner of my eye I look at the other Alpha wondering why he hasn't stepped in yet when he should be the one I’m speaking with instead of this i***t Beta, internally I frown seeing that he seems to be frozen in place and is just staring at me with unmoving eyes making me feel a tad uncomfortable. Right at that moment Trace grabs hold of one of Carly's and dad's arms and slowly takes a few steps back, they start to fight him off but he whispers something so low only they can here. Turning to completely face them my brows furrow as to why they are looking at the Alpha then me and cautiously stepping away. What is going on? Sighing I spin around to the Beta to argue some more with him but see that he is doing the same thing as everyone else leaving only me and the Alpha together. Are they wanting me and that Alpha to fight or expecting us to? That's the only reason why people step back away from two Alpha's. A low rumbling growl comes from the Alpha catching my attention, not liking being growled at by an enemy my canines extend and I feel the prickliness under my nail beds as my claws want to come out. Quickly turning to face the Alpha I bare my canines at him and get into a defensive position. He ignores my actions and stalks closer to me acting like he is in some sort of trance, from his posture and body language he doesn't mean any harm which confuses me even more as to why everyone backed away. Straightening up I tilt my head back to look up at him and something I never expected happens. My breathe hitches as I'm pulled into those beautiful hazel orbs of his, in those deeps swirling pools of brown and green I see many emotions, awe, happiness, disbelief, caution and the strong emotion being love. Seeing love makes me automatically take a step back he growls at the small movement but I ignore it as I take another panicked step back. There's no way I can meet my mate this early before I have my chance to be Alpha and he sure as hell can't be the Alpha of the enemy pack that’s been looking for excuses to go to war with us. His eyes start to darken, his wolf not liking that his mate isn't basically running into his arms, oddly my wolf is quiet about the situation which isn't like her. Sensing I don't really know what to do dad bravely comes forward to stand beside me. Whenever mates meet especially high ranking mates it's a bad idea to be anywhere near them in case their wolf thinks you are getting in the way and will attack. In a flash I'm acting like a small child as I get behind dad so the Alpha can't see me. "Beta what was it you were saying about punishment?" I can hear the amusement in dad's voice as he crosses his arms over his chest and I can just picture his smirk and raised brow as he mocks the wolf. "Was it something about death?" At this the Alpha angrily snarls and I swear I can feel the fear radiating off the Beta who just a few minutes ago was onboard with me being dead. Peeking around dad I see the Alpha looks ready to kill his Beta and the Beta looks like he's going to pee himself in fear of his Alpha. Honestly I wouldn't doubt it if he did kill his Beta, I've heard the rumors about his cruelty most call him the heartless Alpha because he's destroyed many packs and is notorious for killing any wolf that crosses his territory whether it be on purpose or accident. "N-no. I-it's fi-fine she trespassed. She c-can en-enter out pack lands when- whenever sh-she wants." The Beta stutters out as his eyes wildly dart between the Alpha and dad. I can't help but let a giggle escape at seeing how the Beta was arrogant not too long ago and now he's terrified, as if knowing what I'm thinking Carly starts to giggle too making a little bit of annoyance flash through the Beta’s eyes as the three of us are outright making fun of him. Trace sighs. "I really don't think this is the appropriate time to laugh." Oh it is definitely the appropriate time to laugh because it's just too funny to not laugh at. The Alpha jerks his head in my direction and I move my head back behind dad afraid to look at the man with silky looking dark hair I’d love to run my fingers through, I shake my head and interally chastise myself at that thought. Carly's giggling dies down at Trace’s words, she comes up next to me and I could just kill her for what she does, she grabs hold of one of my arms in a death grip and roughly yanks me out from behind dad making me yelp in surprise. I go to get back behind him but she quickly twists my hand behind my back effectively keeping me in place. "Sorry." She innocently says with a playful look. Dad and Trace smirk before they retreat into the woods, the Beta of the other pack does the same. Releasing my arm Carly swiftly shifts into her wolf and takes off running before I have the chance to do anything. Great they all left us alone and I can’t exactly leave since I came here to settle the matter of yesterday. My mate is scanning over every inch of my body, I should feel uncomfortable but I don't because sadly it sends pleasurable shivers down my spine at his approving gaze. Unknowingly I do the same. He is in a pair of basketball shorts meaning he ran here in wolf form, his torso is completely bare showing off his impressive eight pack, there's a small trail of hair going from his belly button down the middle of his v-line, his arms are very muscular making it very apparent that he works out daily, on his left peck is his pack tattoo, the tattoo of the Eclipse pack. Staring at his dark brown hair I shake my head snapping myself out of my creepy staring. Huffing I cross my arms over my chest and raise a brow at him as he gets done checking me out. "Did you forget that we are here for a reason?" "What's your name?" His voice is so deep and husky that it makes my wolf purr in my head. As much as I don't want to give him my name it's probably in my best interest to do so and even if I didn’t give him my name he’d easily be able to find it out by asking just about anyone. "Emma Black." I keep my tone emotionless as I try to go back to Alpha mode. The corners of his mouth twitch up into a breath taking small smile. "I'm Ethan Haynes." "I know who you are, it's kind of hard to not know the name of the Alpha of the enemy pack." His small turns into a frown at my retort. "Anyway... let's get to business. You seemed pretty angry not too long ago about my trespassing and fighting two of your wolves." His mouth pops open then snaps closed making him look like a fish, finding out we're mates has completely gotten all thoughts of any sort of punishment out of his mind... Well maybe not, if he's really as bad as the rumors claim then there's a very high possibility he wouldn't give a second thought to harming his mate. "Um... no need for any kind of punishment but just make sure you keep the pups from crossing over the border so this kind of situation doesn’t happen again." Ethan nervously rubs the back of his neck. "They won't trespass again, it was my fault she was this far into the territory and I should've kept an eye on her." He replies with a nod and soon an uncomfortable silence falls over the both of us. I can tell Ethan really wants to say something to me but it's either he doesn't know what to say or he's trying to figure out how to tell me whatever it is that he's thinking. Usually with mates when they meet they go running into each other's arms and act all lovey dovey but for more than one reason I'm not doing that. Firstly I never even put much thought into having a mate since dad never found his true mate or even had a chosen mate. Secondly I'm dad's only heir even if I am adopted and lastly there's no way in hell I will easily accept an enemy as my mate. Goddess my life is going to start getting even more complicated. Getting tired of the silence I finally decide to speak because from the looks of it Ethan is just going to keep staring at me as he mulls over words in his head. "Thank you for not pursing the matter of punishment and I'm sorry that a pup went into your territory. However I will not apologize for wanting to protect that pup or for fighting two of your pack members because they shouldn’t have been terriorize such a young little girl." With that said I turn on my heels and walk away from the Alpha I've hated for several years.
