Chapter 2

ALPHA TYSON'S P.O.V. Due to the pack's growth we were graciously granted more land by the supernatural council even though I never asked them for more land, from my years of expierence as an alpha the council only gives you land without request when they want some kind of favor from you. I tried to turn down the land but they were very adamant on giving it to me. The pack already has plenty of room as it is and more land is honestly a big headache because it means more area that we'll have to patrol making it easier for rogue's and enemies to get through. Looks like I'll have to find more warriors who will volunteer for the boring job. Today my beta Trace, third in command Luke and I will go check out the land to make sure it's safe cause for all we know rogues could be living there but they would be stupid to be living in an area so close to a pack, they usually stay as far away as possible in fear of being hunted down or accidentally crossing into pack territory which is often a death sentence. Sighing I leave my bedroom to go meet Trace and Luke down stairs so we can start raking through every inch of the new land for any threats and memorize the layout. "Alpha." They both greet as they see me descend the stairs making me roll my eyes at them. We're all good friends who grew up together so I constantly tell them to just call me Tyson unless it's some formal occasion or a meeting but the two don't listen and call me Alpha whenever anyone that's not family or close friends is around. I may be in a position of power that demands respect by being called by my title but I admit it does get annoying at times. "Let's get this over with." I sigh as I step past them going out the front door of the high ranking house. You'd think I'd be more enthusiastic about the new land but nope it's going to cause alot of problems til the pack gets used to where the boundaries of it are and whenever learning a new area you're more prone to accidentally getting injured in some way from the unknown terrain. When the pack first started growing I requested for more land and due to the members having no sort of idea what's in that park of the forest a few accidents happened such as falling off giant boulders, getting paws stuck in tree roots and an accidental drowning, a smaller wolf came across the river and misjudged the current of the water, she stepped in to clean mud off her paws and was swept away. Leaving the house with Trace and Luke right on my heels I go straight to the passenger seat of the all terrain jeep I own and climb in. I recieve weird looks from Trace and Luke, we originally planned on running in our wolf forms to the area but for some reason I have a strong gut feeling that is telling me we need to drive the jeep til we get to the edge of the land then go on foot from there. It's almost like something is wanting to let me know that the jeep will be needed, maybe one of us may in some way get hurt to where we can't run in our wolf forms back to the house so the jeep would be needed to get whoever home. Not questioning me on my change of plan Trace gets into the drivers seat while Luke gets in the back. Once we are all settled in Trace starts the jeep and begins driving, while I secretly ponder over the odd feeling I have or should I say it's more like an instinct. Believe it or not but it takes a good hour of manuvering through trees and boulders having to drive at a snail's pace before we reach the new area. As I get out of the car my wolf becomes restless and uneasy which puts me on edge because my wolf never acts this way, I'm one of the lucky werewolves that has a calm wolf so if anything makes him anything but calm it's usually because something big is about to happen. Luke and Trace are at my side in seconds sandwiching me in between them, with a long sigh I start slowing walking into the unknown keeping my heightened senses on high alert and warning the other two to be as cautious as possible. Scowering over every inch of the land I become a little elated, my odd feelings are long forgotten, this has to be the most perfect piece of land anyone could own. It has very lush vegetation, there are bare berry bushes, apple trees and places where wild vegetables grow, when the weather warms up and all the plants start to grow they will make great food for the pack members that are out for runs, we get hungry fast in our wolf forms because of all the calories we burn so everyone would love to stop here for snacks if they get hungry. Luckily the ground is flat and not all hills and obstructions like I imagined it would be, a crystal clear stream runs right through the middle and there's even a few meadows that the pups would have plenty of fun with their families in. "I think it would be a great idea if we generously gave our house to the pack and built a new one here." Trace states as he looks at everything with awe making me chuckle at him. To us this land is seriously like a slice of heaven especially with the scents of wild animals everywhere, our wolves would be more than happy to be here and hunt down the unsuspecting prey. Something I like about the scents we are picking up is there are no traces of anything dangerous such as bears and mountain lions. "I second that." Luke pipes up with a huge grin plastered on his face. I shake my head at the two. "Would be nice to live here but we can't be selfish like that, the pack would enjoy being here and get more use out of it than we would." The two put on fake pouty faces at my words making me roll my eyes at them. "Also it would be too dangerous if we lived so far away from the pack, being right in the middle makes it easier to make it to any part of the territory if assitance is needed." A few miles into the area we spot an old cabin that is in shambles, parts of the roof are caved in, the tiny porch has missing and rotting floorboards, the few windows are broken and the front door seems to be missing. We all stop narrowing our eyes in suspicion of the collapsing structure, rogues usually live in a normal house near a town but some wonder from place to place and will stay in whatever shelter they can find and it's highly possible some could be in there right now. Since this area has only recently became ours if anyone is in there we will just make them leave instead of capturing or killing them because there's a chance they don't know this is now pack territory. I gesture with my head for Trace and Luke to enter the cabin and I'll scout out the surroundings to see if anyone is nearby, we then part ways. Keeping all my senses on alert I silently stalk around to the back of the cabin not wanting to be too far from my friends in case they need help which is highly unlikely cause they are incredibly highly trained, but it's better to be safe than sorry. As I quietly step around twigs on the ground. Keeping my hearing mostly focused on my friends I can hear what sounds like a normal wolf growling from inside the cabin and my friends talking, making me chuckle and shake my head, usually any animal would run for the hills when they caught the scent of us but looks like the two found an unusual one that's holding it's ground. From the sounds of it there's no rogues but I still stay cautious silently scanning the area. "Alpha!" My head snaps to the cabin where Trace just shouted from, my alpha instincts take over as I run to the front of the dilapidated building ready for a fight or whatever it is that's the cause for my beta to shout for me. Charging into the tiny cabin I'm faced with a dumbfounded Luke who is holding an unconscious wolf and a shocked Trace who seems to be staring at something. Not sensing a threat I push past the two who don't seem like they are able to talk at the moment, my eyes go wide as I look at the tiny dirty figure huddled up against the wall. Small whimpering catches my attention as I realize the figure is a small child, bending down I try to get eye level with the child but it's so tiny even when I'm as low as I can I'm still too tall to be at it's eye level. A dirt covered face looks up at me, bright green eyes flicker between the three of us that hold nothing but pure fear as matted red hair hangs down over the child's face. Taking a sniff of the air the scent of werewolf hits me along with a feminine scent letting me know this is in fact not a human child but an abandoned pup. "What is a little girl doing out here all alone?" I quietly ask myself. This is the first time any of us have encountered this kind of situation. "We're just as clueless as you but this wolf here was protecting the girl, we grabbed the wolf when we heard a small sob then the sound of something hitting the wall, Trace moved the bed and there she was just hiding." Luke's voice holds confusion at the situation. My heart aches as I notice the pup trembling as tears leave trails down her dirty face, the poor girl can't be more than a few years old and is living out here in the wild with nothing but a wolf. What happened to her parents I think as my eyes roam over her, from what little I can see of her body she has scratches all over and her shirt is over sized with holes all over it. Not taking my eyes off her I speak. "Luke slowly bring the wolf over here and place it down near this girl, it might give her some semblance of comfort." Doing just as I said the old looking wolf is gently set down in front of the pup, as soon as Luke steps away the girls wraps her small arms around the wolf and tightly grips the fur with tiny fists, just like I thought the wolf would comfort her. Is it possible that this wolf has somehow managed to take care of the girl? I wonder as the I watch the pup hold onto the female wolf like her life depended on it making my own wolf whine inside my head. Light from the windows reflects off something hanging from the girls neck, using my enhanced vision I study the expensive necklace that says Emma in diamonds on a heart made of what appears to be white gold. "Emma?" My voice is low and soft as I test out the name, the little girl's head snaps up to me meaning that must be her name. "Is that your name?" She doesn't reply as she stares at me with a little more fright than before. Looking over my shoulder I motion with my head for the guys to leave, they seem hesitant but seeing as it's only a pup we're dealing with they step outside the cabin staying close enough that they can hear whatever I say. Emma seems to relax a little at their departure making me smile at the idea she's not as afraid of me as she is of them when in truth I'm much more fearful since I'm an alpha. Unsure of how to go about appraoching her I very slowly start to reach my hand out to her hoping she'll take it as a peaceful gesture but instead of taking it or being curious she once again whimpers making me quickly draw my hand back. My brows furrow as I try to think of what to do, there has to be some way to get her to trust me enough to take her away from here and put her in the pack orphanage where she'll be well taken care of and maybe one of the pack members will adopt her since she's so young. If she was to continue living this kind of life who knows how much longer she'll live it's already a miracle that she's still alive. As silence settles over us the soft grumble of a stomach is heard, Emma drops her head and places a tiny hand on her stomach with a frown. At this small action an idea pops into my head. Taking the backpack on my back off I rummage around in it, feeling the wrapped up sandwich I smile, pulling it out of the bag I carefully hold it out to her hoping she'll take it. My smile falters a little when she just blankly stares at the food I'm offering her. A frown covers my face as a thought occurs to me, it's possible she doesn't know this is food. So I pull my hand back and take the plastic wrap off the sandwich, once it's off I take a bite out of it keeping my eyes locked onto the pup showing her that's it edible and safe to eat. Her tiny head tilts to the side as she observes me, I catch her eyes briefly flicker to the sandwich before she goes back to looking at me. Swallowing the mouthful of food I warmly smile and once again hold the sandwich out to her, those little green eyes show the want she has for the unknown food but she's afraid to take it. Trying to keep the smile on my face I place the sandwich on the dirty floor internally grimacing at how filthy the sandwich is now, she then slowly comes out from behind the wolf, cautiously grabbing the sandwich she rushes back behind the wolf. I watch in amusement as she greedily eats the sandwich with wide doe like eyes as if it's the greatest thing she's ever tasted. "Continue scouting the land, I'm going to stay here and try to get the girl to trust me." I mind link my beta and third, without replying they reluctantly leave area around the cabin. A small burp echoes around me, my eyes widen at the little girl who has now finished her meal a chuckle leaves me at the adorableness of her slamming a hand over her mouth like she knows it's rude to burp. After hours of me just randomly chatting away at the little girl and occasionally offering her food from my backpack she is finally starting to trust me, with every story I told her tiny body would move an inch closer to me. It's sad to see such a pitiful little girl that is scared of people. When the wolf had awoken she didn't get aggressive towards me like she did with Trace and Luke, instead she kept close watch on my movements making sure I won't harm Emma. When the sun began to set I heard Trace and Luke come back signaling that they explored all the land, they patiently waited outside as I counted talking away to no longer frightened pup. It wasn't too much longer til she hesitantly climbed on my lap and was lulled to sleep by my non stop chatter. Carefully cradling the tiny body in my arms I stand up trying to not wake her, it has taken the entire day to get her to come to me and I'm exhausted. The wolf whimpered watching me hold Emma but it's like she understood that the girl needed to come with us, silently the wolf padded over and sorrowfully licked the pup's feet then backed away and sat down. Nodding at the old wolf I leave the cabin with Emma who is about to start a new life in my pack.
