CHAPTER SEVENThe Marquis awoke and realised that he had slept for several hours, although he had found difficulty in going to sleep. He had been really horrified at what had occurred. At the same time he knew that never before in his life had he had such an intense reaction to a kiss. In fact it was different from any kiss he had ever experienced. He lay in bed for a long time wondering just what he could do about it. Then he fell into a restless sleep that ended in a confusion of dreams which now he could remember little about. All he knew was that he felt uncertain and unsure of himself. ‘As soon as I get back to England and sanity the better,’ he said to himself finally and then violently pulled the bell-rope for a valet. * Shamara did not wake up until late in the afternoon.
