Esme’s POV The sound of water still poured behind me but it was colder now. Almost cruel. Gerald was asleep slumped against the shower wall the steam long gone. His face was peaceful, like the mess he’d left in my chest didn’t exist. I stood there for a second soaked and trembling, but not from the cold. Then I moved quietly and carefully. I peeled on my clothes still wet from earlier and didn’t bother with my shoes. My fingers were shaking as I pulled the door open. I left no note no goodbye I didn’t glance back. I Just escaped. The night was too still when I came out, it wasn’t long ago I woke up and it wasn’t already dark.
