I had just reached the top step when I heard his footsteps coming from behind.
I wasn't really paying attention to what he was doing anymore, but with Damien, that was pretty much the same as him being gone. I just kept walking towards my room, and my hand was already on the door handle when I heard his voice calling out from the hallway.

"I said goodnight."
"You're not answering me, though." A brief silence followed. "I'm waiting for a response to my question."
