Josh Just like the doctor had promised, a few hours later, Celeste was moved to a private room. When the nurse finally came to collect us, I felt a strange mixture of relief and dread. Relief because we were finally going to see her. Dread because, somehow, seeing her made everything feel real. The nurse opened the door. I stepped inside. And stopped. My heart f*****g broke. Celeste looked so small. Too small for the hospital bed that seemed to swallow her whole. There were tubes and wires everywhere. IV lines ran from her hands. Machines surrounded the bed. The heart monitor continued its steady rhythm. And the breathing tube remained in place, helping her breathe while her body fought to recover from the damage that bullet had caused. For a moment, none of us moved. This
