SOPHIA’S POV
I felt my jaw fall slack but couldn’t find any will within myself to pick it back up. To say I was surprised would be a terrible understatement. His usually bright blue eyes looked like life had been sapped out of them and the bags under his eyes made him look twice his age.
I wanted to ask if he was alright. The question was at the tip of my tongue when I finally pulled my jaw back up. I wanted to take the pain in his eyes away in his eyes. I wanted to hug him and tell him he would be alright.
But all I did was stare at him, waiting for him to say the first words.
He looked conflicted for a while, stuttering before he finally spoke. “Hi, um- did you hear an alarm ring from my house?”
