CHAPTER FIVE The day seemed to move along at a snail’s pace for Xander. Ever since he’d talked to Chloe on the phone, the hours felt like weeks. The meeting bored on and on until Xander had received the call. From that point on, the sun came out for him. He couldn’t wait for the working day to be over. Excusing himself half an hour earlier than normal to go back to his apartment was off-kilter, even for him. Xander didn’t care, though. He had a date with Chloe at 8 pm and wasn’t going to be late. He’d kept his phone in his hand most of the day in case she had sent a text. Whether making a coffee or having some rudimentary conversation, he did everything with extreme delicacy.
