Any attempt to get to sleep during the night was utterly futile. Xander knew it well before he arrived at his apartment. He’d f****d up in so many ways over the past week, it was hard to know where to begin.
The obvious mistakes hit him with a stark blatancy. Chloe being the biggest one. At once threatening to sabotage his life’s work by distracting him and also saving the day during the deal.
He’d downed half a bottle of whiskey before he’d removed his jacket. The alcohol did its best to strip away the harsh reality of what had gone down. Before long, he was talking to no-one in particular, trying to convince himself he’d done the right thing.
