Bitter Changes 2

The room was silent. Sapphire looked at both parents,not ready for what she was about to hear. Her sisters had been excused. Her parents weren't probably ready to let them know what they were going to do to her. The silence was unbearable. Jane decided to break the silence.

"Well,Sapphire there's something your dad and I would like to tell you"Jane smiled. Sapphire assumed that smile was not sincere ,to her maybe it was just a way to let her down easy and she wouldn't take it. She wouldn't tolerate false emotions .

"Phil,your cue"Jane tugged Phil gently, she didn't want to be the one to start the discussion.

"Me? well right......He cleared his throat and spoke reluctantly.

"Well it has come to our notice that this present environment is no longer okay for you"

"I never complained to anyone" Sapphire said coldly.

"We know you didn't honey, but what happened yesterday. it was just......

"Not normal "Jane cut in.

"We can't deny the fact that weird things have been happening around you lately. People have started talking .Rumours are flying everywhere "Phil added.

"Well I don't care about what people say"Sapphire said looking away from her parents.

"We know but think about what effect it would have on us"Jane said in her most calmest voice.

"So what are you suggesting then?

Phil and Jane looked at each other carefully.

"Your mother and I decided it's best if you go somewhere far from here at least till this all dies down"

"I knew it. You guys are trying to get rid of me! Sapphire retorted standing up with so much force clenching her fists.

" No honey that's not what it is"Jane held her hand softly but she pulled it away.

"That's exactly what it is! Sapphire let the tears flow in torrents.

"It's not like that .Think about your sisters......

"I would never harm anyone. Why can't you trust me mum"

Jane sighed. She knew Sapphire had heard what they had said earlier.

"I heard what you guys said earlier and I know what you really think so don't try to pretend "

"Sapphire your mother did not mean what she said. She was just under a lot of stress and panicking. We know you'd never harm anyone but think of how it'll affect our reputations,your sisters"

Sapphire sobbed quietly.

"But this is my home. You want me to leave my sisters ,my friends and everyone I care about"

"Look honey we don't like this decision either but we have to do it. I haven't been able to convince the neighbors that what happened yesterday wasn't you .If you stay it'll make it worse. Try to understand "

Phil looked at her softly,holding one of her hands.

Sapphire pulled back like she had touched something repulsive.

"You're willing to send me away just to save your reputation. How could you guys do this to me. I thought you guys would always be there for me but I was wrong. I guess what people think about you is more important than me"Sapphire stormed out of the living room.

"Sapphire please come back"Jane called and tried to follow her but Phil held her back .

"We should let her calm down first"

Jane sat down weakly, guilt enveloped her.

"I shouldn't have said what I did back there"

"It's okay. We'll talk to her just let her be for now"

Sapphire slammed the door shut so hard and threw herself on her bed.

why me? why would they do this to me?I don't want to leave. But what if they're right. What if people start avoiding my family because I'm different. No one would talk to us. No one would want to invite my sisters to parties or talk to them. I would totally ruin their social life! I don't want that. But if I leave, maybe this will all die down and no one will remember.

Sapphire sighed and wiped her tears with the sleeve of her shirt.

"Maybe it's for the best"

She looked at the fluffy teddy bear she poured her anger on earlier and held it bringing it close to her face.

"I'm so sorry, Mr tinkles you didn't deserve what I did to you. I just don't want to leave I.....

Her throat felt dry,she was choked with tears. She hugged the teddy bear tightly, seeking for comfort.

"I...have to...leave cause... I'm different. And I don't know what I am"

"Sapphire honey please open the door "Her parents banged on the door.

Sapphire got up gently and opened the door.

"Oh Goodness. I was scared you might have done something bad to yourself. Are you okay? Jane touched Sapphire's cheek tenderly.

"I'm sorry I ran off on you "

"It's okay. I know it's hard for you. it's hard for us too. But if you go somewhere new, it'll be a new start. You can hide your powers and who knows maybe if you do they'll go away. "

"I hope they do"Phil said.

"I guess it's for the best"Sapphire said lost in space.

Jane nodded.

"It would seem so. We've called your aunt Wendy to come pick you up in two days time. You'll be living in London but not with her. She gets so busy, she's never at home so we've enrolled you in a boarding school there. Is that okay. "

"Humph,its not like I have a choice "

"it's okay,everything will be okay"Jane wrapped her hands around Sapphire but she didn't reciprocate. She felt numb and stood there like a lifeless figure. A tear dropped from her eyes.

She moved back gently and looked at her parents.

"I need some time alone"

"Okay honey. Come down for dinner when you're ready"Her parents left. Sapphire shut the door behind her. She looked at the vase she had somehow put back together.

She laid on the bed and cried quietly.
