Chapter 3One second later, it felt like, he was blinking awake with morning sun in his eyes. What the hell? Had he really fallen asleep at nine-something and slept straight through the night? Maybe he was sick. That would explain a lot. His abnormal behavior on Thursday night, not remembering leaving the club, the weird feeling that his heart was beating with the pendant… Maybe half of it was a fever dream. Who knows what had happened? Darken knows. Maybe nothing happened, he told himself. He just needed rest and orange juice or whatever. Aspirin. Vitamins. At the very least, hypothetically being sick was a good excuse to not start looking for work today. It was considerate of him not to, in fact—he could be spreading germs. Jet crept to the bathroom to pee, then snuck back to bed.
