Chapter 5Jet woke to a strange pressure in his head and chest. Nothing like sinus pressure. More like…Jet couldn’t focus enough to think what it was. He stumbled out of bed and to the door. Go to Darken, he told himself as he opened it. He’ll know what’s wrong. But his body turned the opposite way, and his feet walked to the staircase. And went up. “He’ll call his heart to him and you’ll come to him,” Darken had said. Jet whimpered. There was only one door at the top of the stairs. Jet went through it. The room was large and shadowy and full of things. Jet got that in one glance before his gaze locked on the figure seated in the center of the room. The lights were off and the windows covered and the figure draped in a cowled robe. Jet couldn’t have said how he knew it was a person. H
