Chapter 2

1006 Words
The tall, lean shadow stops right at the entrance of the bedroom door. The atmosphere is filled with silence and nervous energy.! I couldn't see who was standing there, but that's when I heard creeping sounds along the wall that made me shiver! "I told you I have a weapon! Don't make me use it!" "Okay, Okay. Let's remain calm. I was only trying to feel for a light switch." The distinct male voice says. Peering in the dark, I tried to see where he was. I could no longer see his shadow in the doorway. "Where are you? I told you not to move!" I could only see a dim light coming from the sitting room area at the front of the small cottage. But it wasn't helping my vision or my frightened mind! "Look, I'm sorry I'm not going to hurt you, Ms, please don't shoot. There must be some kind of mix-up." The man said in a calmer voice. As his hand finally landed on the light switch, unbeknownst to me. "Hey, I'm about to turn on the light." He tells me. I scream out to him. "Don't!" At that very moment, I shouted out don't! The bright bedroom light came on, glaring down at me. My natural reaction was to block the brightness from my eyes as my heart pounded against my chest! I blinked rapidly, trying to adjust quickly to the light! My eyes were still somewhat affected by the bright light I saw well enough. It was a man standing at the foot of the bed! For sure, I knew this was the end of my existence! But I wasn't going without a fight. I began tossing anything I could get on the night table next to me. I threw a half-filled water bottle at him the notepad; I tossed the pillows off the bed and even my bonnet on my head at him as I screamed! "Don't you come near me, you creep!" "Hey, wait a minute! I told you I wasn't going to harm you!" He said, successfully dodging everything I threw at him. "Get out of here! I will call the police if you don't leave my cottage right now!" I threatened, picking up the lamp as it appeared my threats had fallen on deaf ears! The stranger stood there, not moving an inch! I didn't have anything else to throw at him! "Are you finished!" He said in an agitated but calm tone. "No! Get out of here!" I blinked rapidly, trying to catch my breath as the man came more into focus though scared to death! The man's appearance was surprising! He didn't look like an ax murderer or some rugged criminal. Instead, standing there, he was impressive. Ranging in height around 6' feet 2 inches, he is a lean breed of a man with interestingly dark features. He puts a slight smirk on his face shaking his head at me. Though he didn't look like a criminal, he didn't look like a harmless little boy either with a smirk as he started talking again, asking me. "Why are you in my cottage and my bedroom? He said arrogantly but warily as if he'd wished I would be here waiting for him to come. I didn't even know this jerk! What nerve he has! And how conceited! I thought. My eyes moved away from the man's handsome face. "All I know, you better not come near me!" I said, trying to hide my fear. I focused on the black duffel bag he had slung over his shoulder. I didn't answer his question as I looked up at the dark brown or black hair that showed under the snapback he had turned backward. Sharp, slightly slanted dark brown eyes were leveled on mines, steady and calm but with a hint of irritation. He began unzipping, opening his black leather jacket. "Hey! What do you think you are doing, Sir?!" I yelled before he pulled out what I thought might have been a weapon. "What does it look like I'm doing? My question remains! What are you doing in my bed, and when are you going to get out of it?" He said, making a grunting noise of agitation. "Sir, I have no idea what you are talking about! This is my cottage and my bed, and you need to leave or else!" "Or else what?! He said, towering over me and glaring down at me. If he was a murderer or wanted to assault me sexually, he was quite possibly the most attractive criminal I'd ever seen, which didn't do a thing for my frustration level. I'd finally been able to sleep. I was sleeping! He could have no idea what a welcome miracle that had been for me to get some sleep. He waved his hand. "Look, lady. Do you want to tell me why you're in this cottage?" "I've been sleeping here for almost two hours. I rented this cabin this evening. So that's what I'm doing here. What are you doing breaking up in my bedroom!" The man shook his head. "That can't be right...I booked this place weeks ago. So they couldn't have told you to sleep in my rented cottage. Look, get up. You got the wrong cottage." "Well, I'm telling you, that's what happened. This is my room, and I'm not going anywhere! Wait a minute! I will call the front desk right now! No! Better yet, I'm going to call the police!" I said threateningly, hoping it would move him just to take his bags and leave. But the obnoxious man didn't budge. I was still holding the lamp. Finally, I reached for the phone on the nightstand. And the bed covers fell onto my lap. The man's eyes cascade down my exposed body! "Oh my god!" I said quickly, letting go of the lamp and dragging the coverlet to my chin. When I saw his eyes shift and lower, they told me everything I didn't want to know!
