(His Weakness)
"KAIREN?"
He looked at the girl who called his name. He could read the fright in her gazes as she saw the man stooping in front of him while begging for his life.
Her gapes tinge at him before gazing at the one he was weilding.
At that time, his question will be answered. Will she accept him when she finds out who he really is?
The books slid from her hands that seemed to lose its strength. Her feet moved backwards, step by step.
He called the girl's name in softest whisper he could utter that time. But the girl just shook her head, motioning him not to take a step towards her. She veered around and ran. He called her name in loader and pleading voice but she never looked back.
He looked at the weapon he's holding. The blood of the guy kneeling in front of him seeped down the shiny sharp blade of the katana, dropping down the concrete ground. Blood smeared his hands up to his arms, including the side of his face.
Did I scare her with this? he asked himself.
His hands trembled. He seemed numb, letting go of the dangerous weapon that looks like a monster that time. It was also how the guy, in front of him, looked at him. Probably, even the girl who ran off think of him as one.
He followed the direction the girl had taken earlier, struggling to find her. He cried out her name, screaming for her, for him to be heard. But no one answered.
"CAN YOU HANDLE A GUN?"
"What?!" she blurted, surprised by what guy had asked her.
Someone is brutally chasing after them, firing guns at their car. She was keeping her head down, hands on her ears but still hears the shots from behind. Kairen, on the other hand, was driving the car, steering it roughly to both sides to dodge the bullets.
"There's a gun under your seat."
She turned her head to him, without changing the way she sat.
"I can hold a gun but I can't fire," hesitantly, she said.
"Nani? [What?] Are you really imperial?"
With the tone of his voice, he was like blaming her for unable to handle such thing.
"Yeah, of course. I'm from a mafia family but I've never fired a gun my entire life. It hasn't been long since I turned eighteen. If only I could, but the old man doesn't want to."
Her mouth stated breathlessly, as fast as the gunshots firing at their car.
"Then, can you drive?"
"I can drive," she hesitated to answer again.
His hand was still on the steering wheel as he reached for something under the driver's seat. It was a handgun.
"Okay. Let's exchange our seats. You drive," he instructed but she only gave her an unbelievable look.
"There's no time for you to act like that now, Bryan. Move!"
She had no choice. Rather than both of the dying if ever the enemies would catch up with them, she decided to obey his orders.
Moving closer, she placed herself on top on Kairen, sitting on his lap. Fortunately, she is small-built that it would be easy for her to fit the space between him and the dashboard. She put her foot on his footsteps. Now their body is kissing each other. And it's making her feel very uncomfortable.
She moved herself up a little, giving him space to move. Thankfully, she can now breathe easily because he moved swiftly to the other seat.
"Just drive. And I will take care of these assholes."
He rolled down the car window and fired once in the rear.
"Kuso! [s**t!]"
She heard that word from the man again.
He fired twice in the back again. Until something crashed was heard from behind. Looking back in the side mirror, she saw the vehicles rolled a few times and exploded when stopped.
"Okay. Nice." Kairen sat facing the front. "Thankfully, we only got one car as company."
Looking ahead, he frowned. Seemed troubled, he looked at the speedmeter on the dashboard.
"Ittai nani o? [What the hell?] We are not attending a funeral. Hurry up on driving, before someone will catch on us!" Irritated, he ordered.
"Well, I just learned how to drive! Don't reprimand me like a--s**t!"
She bent over and whipped back and forth when gunshots starts firing at their car once more. They just stopped and a white matter from the dashboard inflated, preventing them from worse accident.
It's a good thing that she drives in an unusual speed. Well, if very slow driving is considered as speed. They did not collide badly with the tree.
"I'm sorry," she apologized.
The man groaned, reaching something under the seat she had been sitting a while ago. There was really a gun under.
"Let's go. Get down the car. We don't have much time."
She immediately followed him and went to the nearest woods along the road. If she wasn't mistaken, they were just near the beach where they talked earlier that night. She's not sure but she thinks it is the side of the road. They were walking for a while now, but all she sees are trees and not a body of water.
They stopped for a moment when Kairen held her hand, handing her the other handgun he was holding.
"Hold this. In case you see an enemy, just aim and pull the trigger," he instructed.
"No. I don't know."
But he did not listen to her objection. He started scrolling his phone to call someone.
"Jinro is still busy," he said as he hung up the phone and scrolled again. He put the phone on his ear once again.
"Track my place. I need back up."
He had just dropped the call when he suddenly raised his gun, aiming at where they heard a c***k of twigs. Aimlessly, he fired a shot.
She felt a presence beside him and it was too late before he could notice the man approaching him.
"Karen!" she yelled to warn him.
A ragged man punched Kairen, and kicked his hand which was holding a weapon. Unluckily, Kairen let go of his gun.
The enemy pointed his own gun but it was out of bullets. So he just threw it somewhere. Next, he drew a sword, tied from the unknown man's back. It's small but it looks sharpingly dangerous.
Her gaze focused on Kairen because she wasn't moving even though she had time to fight back. His forehead furrowed and his muscle jaw moved tightly. She looked down at his clenched fists. She would have given him the gun he gaved her, but was frozen when she saw a trembling shake from his hands.
The man rushed in and Kairen dodged. She also stepped aside for her not to get hurt.
She noticed that he seemed to be having difficulty in breathing, while holding the trunk of a tree.
"Karen," she whispered.
It was the first time she had seen him in such a situation. An Ayasaki who can't seem to fight back. But why?
He was still okay earlier in the car while exchanging gunshots. She even heard him cussing word that she can not understand.
The male opponent noticed her and rushed towards her, attacking.
She was ready to dodge when Kairen pulled him and hugged her, moving her away from the attack.
"Karen," she whispered her name again.
She can hear his difficult and heavy breathing. His heart is fast. His eyes were closed, looking so afraid. When he couldn't take it anymore, his knees went down. And because she cannot hold his weight, she couldn't support him very well as he knelt down. She just touched his arms and felt the red liquid flowing down there. His arm were slashed?
Before the opponent could get near again, she felt his attack. She pointed the gun at his head even though she was not looking, making the man stop.
"Put that down. Or I'll blow your head off," she warned.
She let go of Kairen and confronted the unknown man. He still continued to dash with the weapon but she expertly avoided it. Until his blade dixed on a tree, making it hard to pull up.
She grinned. It's her turn. She kicked the man on the side of his stomach to get away from the sword or whatever kind of weapon it was.
Aside from being great in weilding a sword, he is also good in hand to hand combat, making her to release the gun she was holding.
Violently, he grabbed her hair, slumping her head on the nearest tree. She felt a pain in her cheek because of that.
He moved away when she finally gave up struggling and approached the sword. Before he could pull it out again, she quickly searched for a large rock or stone on the ground. She ran towards the man and hit him hard on the back of his head. Striking it like a punching bag.
She must have exerted too much force because the man fell on the ground with her single strike and moved no more.
