Saturday morning arrived with the usual controlled chaos of La Paloma.
Phones rang.
Guests checked in.
Employees hurried through the lobby carrying tablets, coffee, and folders thick with contracts.
Reina had come in early, taking advantage of the weekend shift since she spent most weekdays at school.
She had just finished reviewing the day's room assignments when Emma appeared beside her.
Emma was one of the newer housekeepers, recently hired and still adjusting to the fast pace of the hotel. Unlike most of the staff, she had quickly made herself comfortable, chatting easily with everyone she met.
Emma leaned against the counter.
"Guess who's getting married."
Reina blinked.
"Hopefully someone who actually knows about it."
Emma laughed.
"Not according to this place."
