Silent Rage

Liana's POV: She didn't reply, so I continued. “Leave,” I said, my voice low and cold. “Tell Ronan he can keep me locked up, but I won’t submit to him. Not now. Not ever.” Tears welled up in her eyes, but she stood, picking up the broken pieces of the bowl with shaking hands. “I’m sorry, Liana.” She said softly, before hurrying out of the room, leaving the door to slam shut behind her. The silence returned, thick and suffocating. I sat there, staring at the blood trickling down my wrists, the red staining the silver of the chains. Alaric’s words echoed in my mind—about being a distraction, about revenge, about not wanting me. But I knew better. I’d felt the bond when I’d looked into his eyes, and I knew he had too. I was his mate. No matter what he said, no matter what he did, that bond would never go away. And as much as I hated Ronan, hated this room, hated this prison he’d put me in, a part of me still held onto hope. A hope that Alaric would come back for me. But for now, I was alone. The room was suffocating. The weight of the silver chains tugged against my wrists, burning my skin as they tightened every time I shifted even the slightest. I was exhausted, physically and mentally, torn between two hellish paths: Being the Luna to an Alpha I despised or submitting to a Mate who seemed to want nothing to do with me. My thoughts were chaotic, and my body ached with every breath. Just as I was about to close my eyes and try to forget my situation for a moment, the heavy doors creaked open again. Without even glancing up, I assumed it was Vera, back to force more food down my throat. My frustration boiled over, and I screamed. “I told you, Vera, I don’t want any of your—” But the atmosphere of the room shifted, and I could feel a presence much colder, much heavier than hers. I looked up, and there he was, Ronan, standing at the doorway, eyes boring into mine. His jaw was clenched, and there was a flicker of something wild in his gaze—anger, jealousy, and something else I couldn’t name. He didn’t move at first, just stood there staring, and I stared right back, refusing to show him how deeply he had me trapped. Suddenly, the door slammed shut behind him, echoing in the room. He took a slow step inside, and we remained locked in, neither of us willing to speak first. Finally, he broke the silence. “Why did you go after him, Liana?” He asked, his words dragging out each syllable. He began to pace back and forth. “Are you and Alaric truly Mates?” He stopped and turned sharply to face me, his eyes hard as stone. “Tell me. Did you feel it? Is that why you went after him?” I remained silent, glaring at him. I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of an answer. He had no right to question me like this, not after all he had done. My wrists burned with the bite of silver, but I tightened my fists, willing myself to stay quiet. “I heard everything.” He pressed, his voice growing darker, more insistent. “I heard you talking with him in the forest. I heard everything, Liana.” I flinched involuntarily, and he caught it, his lips curling into a cruel smile. “So, it’s true.” He sneered, resuming his pacing. “You and Alaric... are Mates. And yet, you ran back to me, didn't you?” His voice dripped with mockery, his eyes flashing with something akin to triumph. My anger flared, and I could no longer hold back. “I ran back to nothing!” I shouted, straining against the chains that held me down. “I am only here, because your men dragged me back here like an animal! Let me go, Ronan!” His face twisted with fury, and he leaned closer, his breath hot on my face. “Let you go? So you can run back to him, to Alaric, the Wolf King?” His voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. “I don’t think so. I should have killed him the moment he set foot on our lands, and now... now I will hunt him down. I’ll put an end to him, Liana, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.” My heart twisted painfully, as the silver burned deeper into my skin. “No!” I shouted, trying to yank my hands free, but the chains wouldn’t budge, and the pain only intensified. “You can’t! He’s—” “He’s what?” Ronan interrupted, his eyes glinting with malice. “Your Mate? You think that matters to me? You’re mine, Liana. My Luna. And I will not let some ancient, cursed Wolf take what belongs to me!” “You don’t own me!” I yelled back, my voice cracking. “Oh, but I do.” He grinned, cold and victorious, as he stepped back. “And you’ll learn that the hard way.” He turned away, heading for the door. At the door, he paused and glanced over his shoulder. “By the way.” He said casually as though he was discussing the weathe. “Because you decided to waste the food you were given, you won’t be served another meal until you apologize.” My stomach twisted and I felt my lips part in shock. “What?” I whispered, but he didn’t even bother to look back. “You heard me.” He said, smirking. “No food, not until you swallow your pride and apologize. I’m sure it won’t take long. You’re stubborn, Liana, but not that stubborn.” The door clicked shut behind him, leaving me alone in the suffocating room. My rage burned even hotter, knowing exactly what he was doing. He knew me too well. He knew I had a massive ego, and he knew I would starve before I ever begged for forgiveness. He wanted to break me, and I could feel the anger rising, clawing at my throat. I pulled against the chains again, hissing as the silver cut deeper. My body ached, my spirit more so, and the suffocating sense of defeat wrapped around me like a robe. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to calm the storm inside me, but the pain of reality was relentless. I had to get out. I couldn’t stay here, trapped in a life that was never mine. “Athena,” I called softly, my voice breaking. “Please... please, say something.” But there was nothing. Just silence. The connection we had earlier had vanished, leaving me utterly alone. A sob clawed its way up my throat, and I bit down hard on my lip to keep it at bay. I couldn’t cry. I wouldn’t give Ronan the satisfaction of knowing how deeply he was winning. But as the moments stretched into agonizing minutes, the reality began to sink in. My freedom was slipping further and further away, and I was drowning in this dark, suffocating cage. A tear slid down my cheek before I could stop it, then another, and another until the sobs wracked my body, and I couldn’t hold them back anymore. I might never escape this life. I might be doomed to be Ronan’s Luna forever, a puppet on silver chains, forced to play a role that crushed my spirit. And worse—so much worse—I might have to bear his children, raising them under his rule, while my true Mate, the one my soul called out to, would never be mine. “Athena,” I choked out again, my voice raw and broken. “Please... don’t leave me.” But there was only silence, and the weight of that silence was enough to break me. I was trapped
