As the sun completely disappeared a few minutes later, I couldn't help but sigh in relief. It could only mean that the ritual had worked. A giddy shout escaped my lips, and I dashed into John’s embrace, spinning in a whirlwind of joy as we celebrated this little victory together. Yet, as quickly as the joy came, it was ripped away.
