Chapter 6: Mission

After Rosemary had her fight were her parents, I mdae it todays mission to make her feel better. I know we barely know each other. But I can't explain it, I just feel obligated to make her day better. "Jolene!" She comes running into the office, staring at me like a love sick puppy. I've discovered in the short while that I've worked here, that Jolene has developed a crush for me. "Please get me the address of her daughters school, and occupy Ms Valentino until I come back" She doesn't even question my requests, she just does them. That's what I like about her. She comes back with the address and runs back out to go distract Rosemary while I'm on my mission.

After collecting Bella, which I've come to learn is her name, we went to their favorite coffee shop to get them their lunch, Bella orders the chicken mayo and fries with a chocolate cake for her mother, and the chicken strips with fries and a cheescake for her. I took the same as Rosemary, but without any dessert. "We always take dessert with our food you know, you can have some of mine if you want" she says pushing the cheescake into my face. I giver her a soft chuckle before politely declining her offer.

We make our way back to the hotel and up to her mother's office. But when the elevator dings that we have reached our floor, I wish with all my might that I could time travel. I see Rosemary going off on everyone in the office about where her daughter is and where I am, and how could Jolene just let me go and get her daughter without her permission. When she sees us walking towards her, she stops mid sentence. She runs up to us and grabs Bella to give her a big bear hug. "My office now Zack" She says sternly. Damn if I wasn't shaking in my shoes right now I'd be really turned on. She closes the door behind us, standing with her back towards us. Bella and I give each other a quick look, bracing ourselves for Rosemary's outburst. She turns around slowly, her face red and tears threatening to spill. "You cannot just go and pick up my daughter from school, then take her on a joyride. And have Jolene try to distract me" She says calmly.

"Bella, what have I told you about just going places with people you don't know?" She looks at Bella, on the verge of tears. "I'm sorry moma, Zack said he wanted to surprise you, he said you're have a rough day and he wanted to do something nice for you" Bella walks over to her mother and pulls her down into a tight hug. Rosemary hugs her back, pulling her closer and picking her up. She looks at me, a small smile on her lips "Thank you for trying to make my situation better" She says, her smile faltering "But I need you to understand, Bella can't be picked up by just anyone, what if your plan didn't work? and I went to get her but she isn't there?" I feel horrible right now. I give an apology and leave them to have some time for themselves.

After work, I hit the pub that's close to my apartment. It's always busy here. All sorts of people coming in and out. The Misty Pub is popular bar in Los Angeles, with its dancers on their platforms, the long outstretched bar that always looks never ending, flashing disco lights, the dance floor always full of people grinding up against eachother, the interior makes everything seem so sexy and seductive, purple and red walls with sound proof cushions built in, here and there you'd find a corner booth that is dimly lit. You barely see the peopel sit inside.

I walk over to the bar, hoping to see my favorite bar tender. "Mack buddy, how have you been?" I ask him ehile taking a seat in the middle. "Zack! I've been brilliant, how are you? where have you been?" He comes towards me with two s**t glasses and a bottle of tequila. Tequila is no one's friend. I grimace at the bottle and Mack starts to laugh at me. "Oh you know, I've been around. I got a job at the Winston Hotel as partner" I grin at his shocked, but pleased face. "Great job bud, I'm happy for you. This means we can take some celebratory shots" He yells and pumps his fists into the air.

This might be a very rough night for me.
