Ray. Twisted metal. Broken glass. The burn of acrid smoke in his lungs. Ray gasped awake, opening his eyes to a scene of horror. He was hanging suspended in the crashed SUV. The engine was on fire, the flames burning hotter. In a panic, Ray dropped down to the hood and scrambled on his side, kicking at the door to get it open. Each kick sent a jolt of pain from his foot down his leg. “Come on—come on!” He wasn’t dying in this f*****g car. Not like this. Not in a blazing ball of fire. The back door creaked open and Ray scrambled out, crawling on hands and knees through the wet grass. Shoving off his knees, he swayed on his feet, turning to face the wreckage.
