The other horse by the wagon had disappeared. Jeremiah dropped to the ground and put his ear to the dirt. He closed his eyes and concentrated. “How could it have disappeared so quickly and without our hearing?” Charley held his musket out and continued to the wagon. “Shh, be quiet. Let me concentrate.” Jeremiah remained on the ground, listening. Charley crept up toward the wagon and once there he peeked inside. He could see their supplies and his rolled up blanket. Nothing appeared unusual. He stopped and looked at the ground and took a tentative step forward to the other side of the wagon. Again, nothing appeared unusual.
