After spending a lovely day at the beach, Emily and Jack returned to their apartment exhausted but happy. They had spent the entire day playing in the water, building sandcastles, and lounging in the sun. Emily couldn't remember the last time she had felt so carefree and relaxed.
As they entered their apartment, Emily collapsed onto the couch, feeling utterly drained. Jack, however, seemed to have more energy than ever. He bounded around the apartment, tidying up and putting things away. Emily watched him with a mixture of amusement and exhaustion.
"Are you sure you're not secretly a superhero?" she teased.
Jack laughed. "Nope, just a guy who likes to keep things neat and tidy."
Emily smiled at him, feeling her heart swell with affection. She was so lucky to have him in her life. As she watched him move about the apartment, she felt a sudden surge of love and gratitude for him. She knew that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.
"Jack?" she said softly.
He turned to look at her. "What's up?"
"I... I just wanted to say that I love you," she said, feeling a little shy.
Jack's eyes softened, and he walked over to her, kneeling down in front of the couch. "I love you too, Emily. So much."
They gazed into each other's eyes for a moment, then Jack leaned in to kiss her. It was a soft, gentle kiss at first, but soon it deepened, and Emily felt herself getting lost in the sensation. She ran her fingers through his hair, pulling him closer to her.
Eventually, they pulled apart, both of them breathless. Jack leaned his forehead against hers, and they just sat there for a moment, basking in the afterglow of their kiss.
"I don't want to let you go," Jack whispered.
"You don't have to," Emily replied, her heart beating faster.
Jack looked at her, his eyes shining with emotion. "Emily, will you... will you marry me?"
Emily's eyes widened in surprise, and she felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. She had always known that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Jack, but she had never expected him to propose so soon.
"Jack... of course, I will," she said, her voice trembling with emotion.
Jack's face broke into a huge smile, and he pulled a small box out of his pocket. He opened it, revealing a beautiful diamond ring.
"It was my grandmother's," he said. "She always said it brought her luck in love, and I want you to have it now."
Emily stared at the ring, feeling overwhelmed by the weight of the moment. She knew that this was a decision that would affect the rest of her life, but she also knew, deep down, that there was no one else she would rather spend that life with.
"Yes," she said again, taking the ring from Jack's hand. "Yes, I will marry you."
They hugged each other tightly, both of them feeling a sense of joy and contentment that they had never felt before. Emily couldn't wait to start planning their future together, and she knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, as a team.
As they sat there, basking in the glow of their love, Emily couldn't help but feel that everything was going to be alright. She had found the person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, and nothing could change that.
As Emily walked into the café, she couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia. This was the place where she had met Jack, the love of her life, and had spent countless afternoons chatting, laughing and falling in love with him.
But today, she was there to meet someone else. She had received an email from a woman named Sarah, who claimed to have important information about Jack. Emily was hesitant at first, but her curiosity got the better of her and she had agreed to meet Sarah at the café.
As Emily looked around, she saw Sarah sitting at a corner table, nervously tapping her foot. She was a middle-aged woman with short brown hair and a worried expression on her face. Emily walked over and sat down across from her.
"Hi, Sarah. Thanks for meeting me here. What's this all about?" Emily asked, trying to keep the nervousness out of her voice.
Sarah took a deep breath and said, "I'm sorry to have to tell you this, Emily, but Jack has been keeping a secret from you."
Emily's heart started racing. What could this secret be? Was it something about their relationship, or something else entirely?
"What kind of secret?" Emily asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
Sarah looked around to make sure no one was listening in, then leaned in closer and whispered, "Jack has a daughter."
Emily was stunned. A daughter? How could Jack have kept something like this from her? She felt a mix of emotions - anger, hurt, confusion, and most of all, betrayal.
"I don't understand. Why wouldn't Jack tell me about his daughter?" Emily asked, her voice shaking with emotion.
Sarah shrugged. "I'm not sure. All I know is that he's been supporting her financially for years, but he's kept it a secret from everyone."
Emily felt a knot forming in her stomach. She had always thought that Jack was an honest and trustworthy man, but now she realized that he had been keeping a huge secret from her. She didn't know if she could trust him anymore.
"Thank you for telling me this, Sarah. I need to go home and think about what I want to do," Emily said, getting up from the table.
Sarah nodded sympathetically. "I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you. But I thought you deserved to know the truth."
As Emily walked out of the café, she felt like her world had been turned upside down. She had to confront Jack about this secret, but she didn't know how. Could she forgive him for keeping something like this from her? Or was this the end of their relationship?
