The Unexpected Reunion

442 Words
Emily and Jack had been seeing each other for several months now, and they had fallen deeply in love. They had been meeting at the same café every week, enjoying each other's company over coffee and croissants. One sunny morning, as they walked hand in hand towards the café, Emily noticed a familiar figure sitting at one of the outdoor tables. She stopped in her tracks, her heart pounding in her chest. "What's wrong?" Jack asked, turning to her. "It's... it's him," she stammered, pointing to the man at the table. Jack followed her gaze, and his eyes widened in surprise. "No way," he said. "That's my old friend from high school, Alex." Emily looked at him incredulously. "You know him?" "Yeah, we used to be pretty close. But we lost touch after graduation," Jack explained. Emily couldn't believe the coincidence. What were the chances of them both knowing the same person in Paris? She felt a sudden urge to reconnect with Alex, to find out what he had been up to all these years. "Let's go say hi," she said, tugging at Jack's arm. They walked over to the table, and Alex looked up as they approached. His eyes widened in recognition, and he stood up to greet them. "Emily, is that you?" he exclaimed, his face breaking into a smile. They hugged each other tightly, both feeling a sense of joy at the unexpected reunion. Jack and Alex shook hands, both men clearly pleased to see each other again. "So, what brings you to Paris?" Alex asked, sipping his coffee. "I'm here on a work assignment," Emily replied. "And Jack's been living here for a while now." Alex nodded, looking genuinely interested. "And how did you two meet?" As they sat down at the table, Emily couldn't help but feel grateful for the serendipitous encounter. It was as if fate had brought them together for a reason. Emily and Jack exchanged a look, both feeling a bit sheepish. It wasn't every day that you told someone you met on a dating app. "We actually met online," Jack said, smiling. Alex raised his eyebrows in surprise, but then he chuckled. "Well, I guess that's the way of the world now, isn't it?" They chatted for a while longer, catching up on old times and sharing stories about their lives in Paris. Emily felt a sense of warmth and comfort in Alex's presence, as if they had never really lost touch. As they said their goodbyes and headed towards the café, Emily couldn't help but feel grateful for the chance encounter. Who knew what other surprises Paris had in store for them?
