Chapter 1: The First Flutter

354 Words
It all started on that hot summer day. I was out in the town helping the people when she caught my eye. A girl in a pretty homemade outfit, one that didn't have to be perfect, but on her it was like a hundred bucks. The way her smile made it shine... wait, am I in love?" With a girl? I can't be. My family is strict about meeting princes. What should I do? I pace beside the fountain while townspeople passed by. Oh I know! I will just talk to her maybe she's not going to be the one. I don't even know her name but she gives me the flutters. I slowly walk over to her. "Hi... I really like your outfit. Umm, what's your name?" The girl looks up at me and says "Hi, my name is Mira, and who may you be?" I start to answer but then I realize, if she finds out I'm a princess she may get scared off. I'll just go by my nickname. "Alice, my name is Alice. Nice to meet you." She takes my hand, "Well Alice, lets be friends, ok? I don't have many in town. Oh I know why don't I show you around a bit, ok?" My heart flutters and skips a beat. This girl want to show me normal town things not just ride around in a fancy carriage or smile and wave till your mouth and hands hurt. "Sure! Sounds fun." She starts to show me all kinds of things and food I never had before like this one called pizza "So good." She looks at me with that smile and giggles, "First time trying pizza?" I slowly get to learn more about her throughout the day. Turns out we both love the color violet and sunsets are our favorite time of day. As it gets dark, she offers to walk me home. I lead her to an alley near my house but not too close. I watch her walk away until she disappears into the evening crowd, and somehow the town feels brighter than it had that morning.
