CHAPTER 11: A GUN IN HER PURSE

Chapter 11 – A Gun in Her Purse The Glock 19 sat heavy in her purse like a promise. She’d never planned to carry again. Not since the night she woke up in the hospital, covered in glass and lies. But things had changed. She’d changed. Now, she wasn’t just looking for answers — she was prepared for consequences. The meeting was set for 9 p.m. The location: Black Ember Lounge — high-end, low morals, where secrets bought champagne and killers wore designer suits. She was already seated when Julian walked in. Black suit. No tie. Shadows beneath his eyes. He paused when he saw her. “You have it?” he asked. She slid the printed files across the table like a challenge. “You lied about Gideon.” Julian didn’t sit. “Because the truth would’ve gotten you killed.” “Don’t play noble now,” she snapped. “You were assigned to me, Julian. You monitored me. Touched me. Slept with me. Was any of it real?” His jaw clenched. “You think I planned this? That I asked to fall for you?” Ava’s heart thundered. “Tell me something,” she said, voice trembling. “The night I almost died — was that supposed to happen?” Julian’s silence was the answer. Ava reached into her purse. Fingers brushed cold steel. “I came here tonight,” she whispered, “not to forgive you. But to find out whether you’re the reason I still wake up screaming.” Julian finally sat. “I’m the reason you wake up at all.” Her hand froze. Before she could reply, glass shattered behind them — a bullet hitting the wine bottle on their table. Screams. Chaos. Julian lunged across the table, tackled her to the ground. “You were followed,” he growled. “They’re here.” Ava pulled the gun from her purse. No hesitation. She turned, aimed, and fired — two clean shots. One hit. One miss. A man dropped near the bar. The other disappeared into the crowd. Julian pulled her to her feet, eyes wild. “We have to go.” Ava didn’t move. Not yet. Because the man she shot? He had a tattoo on his wrist. A snake wrapped around a mirrored rose. The same one Elise wore on her back. --- 🔥 End of Chapter 11 Now it’s survival: Ava knows Elise isn’t just a messenger — she’s part of the same system that tried to erase her. Julian may still be protecting her — or manipulating her. And Ava just crossed a line she can’t uncross. ---
