Chapter 5

935 Words
In the living room of the Rainford residence, a strikingly beautiful young woman sat on the couch, crying softly. Though dressed simply, her extraordinary beauty shone through. She was Sarah, Ethan's wife. Her parents, William Rainford and Shirley Rainford, sat beside her. Across from her, a well-dressed, handsome man in his twenties sat facing her, his gaze lingering on Sarah with a hint of greed. This was John Smith, the eldest son of the Smith family. John handed Sarah a handkerchief, acting the gentleman. "Sarah, please stop crying. If you marry me, I guarantee I'll get Lily back." Sarah wiped her tears. "But they're the Vipers, the most powerful gang in Seaview City. How will you rescue her?" Sarah's heart felt like it was being torn apart. Lily had been missing for ten hours, and she didn't know what had happened to her. At that moment, she felt particularly resentful toward Ethan. 'Ethan, where are you?!' John smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry. My father has connections with the Vipers' boss. Just one call, and Lily will be safe." However, John thought, 'My family does have some power, but we're nowhere near the Vipers' level. Still, a few lies to get Sarah, the most beautiful woman in Seaview City, into bed are nothing.' He couldn't help but gaze at Sarah's curvaceous figure, imagining her beneath him, and he felt a surge of desire. Shirley didn't doubt John's words and looked at him admiringly. "Oh, the Smith family is truly amazing. Even the Vipers, the most powerful gang in Seaview City, give them respect. Rainford, marrying John is your good fortune. Why hesitate? Agree to it already!" Sarah shook her head. "But I don't want to betray Ethan." Shirley flared up at the mention of Ethan. "Ethan? Why mention that useless man? He hasn't been back in three years, and there's been no word from him at all. He's probably dead somewhere." William Rainford couldn't bear to hear this. "Shirley, you shouldn't talk like that. Ethan is still part of the Rainford family." Shirley became furious, pointing a finger at William. "What family! You're just as useless as he is. If I hadn't been blind, I wouldn't have married you, you good-for-nothing. If you say another word like that, get out!" "You!" William mumbled, not daring to speak further. He knew better than to cross this battle-axe. Shirley continued. "Besides, how could that useless Ethan compare to John? John is like the sky, and Ethan isn't even fit to lick the mud off his shoes. Our Sarah should marry someone like John!" Sarah frowned. "Mom, Dad is right. Ethan is my husband. No matter what happens, I am his wife. How can you talk about him like that?" John chimed in. "Sarah, wake up. Ethan has no ability, no career. For three years, who knows where he's been wandering? A man like him doesn't deserve you. Now Lily's been taken, and he's nowhere to be seen. Such a man isn't worth holding onto. Only I am a good match for you." Seeing Sarah's concern for Lily, John pressed on. "If you agree to marry me, I can use my connections to get Lily back. Make your decision quickly. The Vipers are brutal. Wait too long, and Lily might not survive." "I…" Sarah hesitated. John had hit her weak spot. She didn't want to betray Ethan, but her daughter was in danger, and Ethan, as Lily's father, was nowhere to be found. The Vipers' influence spread throughout Seaview City, far beyond the reach of the Rainford family. Now, the Smith family was their only hope. Sarah bit her lip hard, torn between loyalty and desperation! At that moment, Shirley urged her. "Sarah, why are you hesitating? Don't you care about Lily? I received a video from them. They broke Lily's little finger. If we don't act fast, the girl might not make it!" Sarah felt as if a knife had pierced her heart. She swayed, nearly fainting! William's face paled at the news. Seeing this, John's lips curled into a smile. "Mom, is what you said true?" Sarah asked. Shirley saw that her words were having the desired effect. "Of course it's true! Make your decision!" Sarah's heart shattered. She couldn't think anymore. All she wanted was to save Lily. "Okay, I... I agree." Sarah said, her lips tightly pursed. John and Shirley both wore triumphant smiles. John grinned. "Very well, but words alone aren't enough. I'm afraid you might change your mind. You need to show sincerity, and then I'll believe you." Sarah asked anxiously. "How do I show sincerity?" John's eyes roamed over Sarah's voluptuous figure, his face twisted into a lecherous grin. Shirley immediately understood John's intentions and led William away. "William, we're tired. Let the young ones chat alone. Come on, let's go." Though timid, William knew what John wanted. Reluctantly, he said, "Shirley, that's not right." Shirley tugged at William's ear. "When I tell you to go, you go! No more talking, come on!" Shirley dragged William to another room, leaving John and Sarah alone. John dropped his pretense, sitting close to Sarah, intoxicated by her scent. He reached out to undress her. Sarah pushed his hand away, hesitant. "You... you really can get Lily back from the Vipers?" John was growing impatient. "Of course. What's a small-time gang like the Vipers? Let me tell you a secret. I know the Dragon Knight Lord. With just one call, I can summon him and destroy the Vipers in minutes." With no other choice, Sarah had to trust John. Reluctantly, she began to unbutton her blouse.
