The hall fell silent.
What was this rush I was feeling?
Satisfaction?
I couldn’t remember the last time I had done something that had made him as speechless as he looked now.
There was no doubt that he could no longer recognize the woman standing before him.
But this wasn’t enough though.
All I wanted to do right now was to make him feel exactly how I had when I laid on that operating table.
“Patience…” Serenx drawled.
In due time.
“Nyra…honey, let’s not do this in front of everyone.” Silas finally said, breaking the deafening silence.
I almost burst out laughing.
Upset?
Was that what he thought this was all about?
It was an understatement…
I was furious and I could feel my burning rage rising from exactly where the goddess had touched me.
The whispers that had once quieted down slowly stirred again.
My eyes met dad and I subtly motioned for him not to interfere.
This was exactly what I wanted… the whispers.
Every noble in the hall was watching… practically salivating over the scandal unfolding before them.
Suddenly Nessa burst into tears.
And when she saw no one was paying any heed to her she cried dramaticallysuo, “I can’t believe this is happening.”
I scoffed.
Had I really been that dumb to fall for anything she did?
What was this pathetic excuse of a display?
“Nyra, please say something...you know I would never do anything to hurt you.” I heard Silas' plea, pulling me out of my thoughts.
His attempt of vindicating himself was going the wrongest of all ways…
Because I’m pretty sure if anyone had accused me of cheating on my wedding day, I’d be mad.
Talk more of walking into the arms of another but knowing Silas… he was about to flip this whole thing on me making himself look guiltier.
“Telling me you would never do anything to hurt me isn’t denial Silas.”
His jaw flexed.
“That isn’t what happened… I and Nessa have never crossed the line.”
I could feel the gaze of everyone slowly turn to me waiting for me to respond.
“Oh?” I tilted my head. “Then tell me what exactly happened.”
He opened his mouth.
I cut him off instantly.
Gosh… I was loving this.
“Should I explain it to you instead?”
Once again the whispers died down.
Hungry gossips.
Vanessa visibly panicked and immediately cried, “Sister, please…”
“You betrayed my trust Vannessa, after all I had done for you…” I feigned being heartbroken.
And used my kindness to sentence me to death!
You deserve more than mere humiliation but like Serenyx had promised…all in due time.
“Thai isn’t the time for this Nyra, father had spent millions to set up this beautiful day…”
Dante whose hands were still around my waist tensed.
“Imagine waking up to the sight of my soon to be husband and my sister have been sleeping behind my back for years.” I said quietly.
The entire hall exploded.
I could even hear one of the elders sitting beside the twins curse beneath his breath.
My father’s expression darkened into something lethal but I shook my head… stopping the guards in their place.
“It wasn’t like that!” I heard Vanessa say in between tears.
I scrunched my face in disgust as I stared at her… I really stared at her as she wept.
Her acting was just so perfect!
Her face was all messy, with mascara streaking beneath her eyes in dark trails while her once glossy lipstick now sat smudged at the corners of her mouth… Nessa had ruined her makeup just for show.
And I had to give it to her, it was just too believable.
If only I hadn’t overheard the delight in her voice as she couldn’t wait until I was gone to move into my matrimonial bed.
“Just tell me how many times have you done it in the bed I was to share with him?” I asked softly.
Vanessa froze.
Silas stepped forward immediately.
“That’s enough… you’re making a scene over nothing with no evidence,” he hissed.
Over nothing?
The rage that surged through me nearly made me go blind.
Before I could respond, Rhys shifted closer behind me.
His fingers brushed lightly against my wrist before wrapping around mine as if trying to calm me down.
The movement did not go unnoticed and I watched in delight as Silas’s expression turned murderous.
Then he laughed bitterly.
“Unbelievable,” he spat. “Just f*****g UNBELIEVABLE Nyra!”
I smiled… slowly
“You’re not even better!”
A murmur spread through the crowd.
“On this auspicious day you decided to cry wolf while throwing yourself at them thankfully in front of the entire kingdom… you’d leave us to wonder what is done in secret.”
He was intentionally deflating using the opportunity to try to rile me up.
Rhys mused, “There it is…the wounded male ego, you just can’t handle what you dish out.”
I was flattered because they, unlike others, had immediately taken my side.
“This is exactly why we choose them.”
Silas ignored him completely.
His eyes stayed locked on mine.
“You kissed them first IN FRONT OF EVERYONE,” he snarled. “So don’t stand there pretending you’re innocent.”
The accusation swept through the hall instantly.
Everyone was eating this up like they hadn’t just witnessed it.
Vanessa immediately seized the opportunity, “I think she’s just being emotional!” she cried.
“She wasn’t thinking clearly, my sister would never purposely want to be associated with the Vale curses.”
That made me snap, “Oh shut up you f*****g bitch.”
The hall fell silent.
